yeah! i have connection with some norwegians who are interested  for development programmes in rowaling. i have recently built a small school  building under the assistment of norwegian. iam seeking for more donors who are interested to develope the Rolwaling especially in the field of educational and hydro - electtricity and hospital in Rolwaling.

do you have any specific projects for Rolwaling?

I am coming to Kathmandu from Dec. 24 - Jan 8 so we can talk in detail
then. I am guessing that the Norwegians are family and friends of Erik
Seim whom I met at your house two years ago? I also just found another
group interested in helping Rolwaling.

Other news - the Inji Ani - Jamyang Wangmo - has asked the tulku in
Thami to write a new Neyig for Rolwaling and he is doing that for a
Tibetan religious book on all the beyul in the Himalaya. We are going
to translate it into English and Nepali later on for people who can't
read Tibetan. Ani Jamyang found a Tibetan book that is 700 years old
that talks about Rolwaling.

I've looked at the mountainfund.org website but I don't see anything
specific for how to form an NGO or file for a grant according to
mountain fund's criteria. Do you have paperwork that I need to carry
with me to Nepal so that I can work with Dawa Chirri on making a
proposal? It seems like my visit there at Christmas might speed up the
process for submitting a request once Dawa Chirri and the other
summiters decide what they want to apply for and what would be a
reasonable request.

Thank you for welcoming me to Rolwaling Groups.

 

Norwegians are interested in Upper Tamakoshi Hydroelectric Project. Norconsult AS ( a norwegian consultancy company) has carried out Feasibility Study of Upper Tamakoshi HEP. The Environmental Impact Assessment(EIA) was carried out as a part of the Feasibility Study. I was also involved in the EIA study of Upper Tamakoshi HEP as a Terrestial Ecologist. The EIA Report has been already approved by Ministry of Science, Technology & Environment.

 

What kind of electricity project in Beding ? Is it a micro-hydro for local electrification or a large scale hydropower project in Rolwaling river? In my last visit to Rolwaling, a Nepali scholar doing his Ph.D. thesis in water resources from a Norwegian University, was also with me. We discussed about the hydropwer potential of the Rolwaling River while we were on the way to Tso Rolpa. But he did not mentioned about Norwegian's plan to examine possibilities for electricity in Beding. I have not also heard nothing about such thing from others. That's way, I think Norwegians are not doing study for a large scale hydropower project in Beding.

 

However, when I and my two friends (one is Ph.D. scholar) reached Beding in the morning of the last saturday (11th Nov), we had noticed two men who were moving with a long measuring tape on their hands along the bank of Rolwaling River, just nearby Beding Village. We asked them. One of them was Mr Karma, a monitoring staff of Tso Rolpa Station and another was a local boy. They told us that someone had asked them to do such sorts of things. Because someone has required field data for feasibility of a microhydropower plant to electrify Beding village.

 

In the second week of coming December, I am again going to the project site of Upper Tamakoshi HEP which is close to very close to Rolwaling Valley. Upper Tamakoshi HEP is making an Access Road from Singati to Lamabagar. I work there for environmental impact mitigations of the project activities.

Yes, I saw a new school building with a red coloured roof in Beding. Making building is not enough. There should be teachers who teach children regularly. In my last visit, I found that the school teacher/s were absent for long time.

 

Let's meet and discuss what we can do for the development programmes in Rolwaling.

Dear Milan-

Yes this is all very interesting to me. I had several conversations
with the previous secretary of the Norwegian Embassy and as I
understood it, the upper Tama Kosi project was going to utilize the
power of the water crashing down from Rolwaling near Simigaon, but
that the actual turbines would be in Lamabagar. This seems to be the
project you were consulting for. Now as I understand it from Dawa
Chirri, there is a separate project sponsered by some Norwegians,
perhaps privately, to do a micro hydel plant for Beding.

There has also been a feasibility study sponsered by Seth Sicroft for a
micro hydel on a waterfall near the villages below Beding. Personally I
have some doubts as to how functional this would be in a really cold
winter as most of the waterfall flow freezes up in the winter.
Sometimes, the river at Beding freezes over completely too, but I
believe there is moving water underneath all winter. Also, a Rolwaling
man by the name of Ngawang Yongden installed Chinese solar panels on
his lodge in Na and was having good luck with those even in the
monsoon, which surprised me.

Will you be in Kathmandu from Dec. 25 - Jan 8 ? it would be good for
Dawa Chirri, yourself and myself to get together.
