I just got my order of Moleskine Soft Cover books from Amazon.co.uk and I wanted to share some images and first impressions. :-)
Generally the soft Moles are pretty similar compared to the hardcover ones. The paper (as far as I can tell before having used them) is exactly the same, just that they only have 192 pages. The expandable inner pocket luckily also is the one of the hardcover Moles and not the (IMHO pretty unusable one) of the 18 month planers. The cover looks and feels exactly like the ones of the 18 month weekly planers, and also the general feel is pretty much the same.
Altogether my first impression is very positive and I'm looking forward to being able to use them, especially the new extra large version. I've been using the large Cahiers before, but never liked neither their paper (scatchy on the backside) nor their cardboard cover.

Thanks for posting these images. I'm so happy the back pocket is the more substantial, standard one. The extra large notebooks could easily become my final journaling destination.

I wound up folding a piece of beige cardstock to make a "folder" to keep some things in. It stays in just fine, but I would prefer the accordion pocket as well. On the other hand, the minimal pocket is nice to keep emergency cash and stamps in and be darn sure they won't fall out.
I got mine a few days ago and I really like the look of it. However, I thought it has 240 pages and it turns out to have 192 pages only.
Still I'm thinking for changing over from the hard cover to the soft cover for my work related GTD and I will stick to the hard cover for my journal and hand made diary (thank you Mike Rohde).
Does anyone know what happened to the postcards and stamps that came with every Moleskine. They were still in the last batch I got and now with the last order from Amazon they have disappeared. Any ideas anyone?
I have not purchased any Moleskine's lately as the last time I purchased, what is for me, a years worth. Now that I've been reading about some issues such as you are reporting and the other issue with the different materials on the hard bound pocket notebooks. I am concerned. The lined pocket notebooks are what I use and love them in their original form. To hear that there is, or may be, changes or quality issues is disturbing.
Anyone else out there reading this that may have some feedback or experiences to share regarding the pocket notebooks, I would greatly appreciate hearing from.
Thanks!

My thoughts relate tot he fact that the text there clearly indicates that they are not even made by Moleskine. Not related to them at all. And, they look more simliar to Volants than to the new soft notebooks...
Any more opinions on the softcover notebooks - i'm considering getting one of the x-large ruled notebooks but i'm wondering what it's like writing with a softcover - the hardcover on the current ones definitely makes it easier to write on the first few pages.

This is the very reason I have no interest in the soft cover. I'm so used to the value in the hard cover version. It protects itself from getting a wrinkled if I'm carrying it in a messenger or backpack. During the week my briefcase would keep it nice but for the other times, even when it's just out on my desk or some other writing surface, I find the hardcover preferable. In addition, when I want to relax in a soft chair or other place where there is no writing surface the hard cover version provides it's own surface. Just my opinion however, I can certainly see the other side of the argument for those that enjoy the soft covers.

The one thing I've used the light brown soft covers for is I've stenciled a graphic image on it and used them as gifts. You can find some really unique images and make it "cool". But for me, as a journal, planner, and notebook, the hard covered Moleskine is best.
