There is definitely a synergy between the Mansion and its weddings and the hotel downtown. I have heard from people that had their wedding at the Mansion and people stayed in the hotel. The guests loved it...I love to see people walking around downtown window shopping and looking at the architecture, its obvious they are from out of town and staying at the hotel.

Enjoyed the tour yesterday of the Wadsworth Mansion. Didn't realized it's owned by the city. Was wondering if any thought has been given to making this fine historical attraction an intricate part of the plans for Middletown's growth and development of Main St. I know it's a little bit of a distance from Main, but could it eventually be a "highlight" of what visitors could see by visiting Middletown (more publicity for example)? Just a thought.

I think having a Target downtown would be great; as long as they don't bring in some second rate version of their stores. I understand the one in Greenwich has a complete grocery store.
Marilyn Mills
I'm not confirming the proposed use is a Target, but a modern big box like Target wouldn't fit at the Home Depot Plaza. From the beginning the direction has been very clear to the developer that the proposed development could not be a suburban strip type development. Architecture and urban design is critical. Any proposed building would have to fit within the downtown. I was at the annual meeting of the Congress of New Urbanism and it was made clear that big boxes could fit within downtowns if designed correctly. The Target in Stamford is an excellent example of how it could work. A 3 level parking garage and a 2 level Target on top. One only has to look back to Shapiro's in downtown Middletown to see an 80,000 sq.ft. department store selling similar merchandise as a Target. Everyone laments the closing of Shapiro's.

Not too sure I like the idea of "Target" arriving in the center of town. Wouldn't a store like that be better off in the Home Depot shopping center? Wouldn't it be possible to put some money into revitalizing that area so we can attract large dept stores like Christmas Tree Shop (preferable over Target). I thought the riverfront was going to be dotted with smaller shops perhaps like Evergreen Walk in Glastonbury.
