You may remember that we offered an observing session to the Memphis
Soaring Society in April, but didn't hear back from them. I got a call
from Robert Williams, a former MAS member, this evening asking about a
session. He apparently inadvertently deleted the e-mail I had sent him
about the earlier one we offered. Anyway, they would like to have us
do an observing session for them on Sunday night, May 25, the night
before Memorial Day. They are having a three-day soaring meet/contest,
and this would be the finale. They are having a cookout that evening--
you can bring whatever meat you want to grill and they will supply the
potatoes and other fixings.
The Soaring Society is made up of people who fly sailplanes (gliders).
They have a field at Cherry Valley, Arkansas, about 9 miles north of
Wynne (45 miles from the I-40 bridge). They have RV facilities and a
clubhouse with showers. You can view their website at
http://www.memphis-soaring.org/index.cfm.
He said there would be between 25 and 40 people who would be
participating and likely to stay for the observing session that
evening. If we can get enough of our members to go we could do pretty
much what we do at Village Creek, including an indoor session with
slides first.
If you would like to do this, please respond to the MAS Google group
and to me. My e-mail address is
wwil...@comcast.net.
