Hi my facility is a C/S 5.65 site and we recently implemented eMAR.  I have a question for the group regarding the ability for nursing to edit label comments.  How many sites have this set up and if you do what capacity (specific scenarios if possible) do they use it for?  Thanks and have a great Memorial Weekend.

We allow it but they never use it.  We had a suggestion of "oh, what if the patient can take something really easily in applesauce, we could put that in label comments" but again, they don't use it.  How I wish there were Pharmacy comments and Nursing comments separately.

I always recommend to NOT allow nursing to edit label comments. Pharmacists will often enter important clinical data (i.e. Do Not Crush or Chew, Do Not give within 2 hours of medications containing magnesium, Shake Well, etc.) into label comments and nurses should not be able to delete or edit that information.  Nursing notes can be used to indicate any additional comments.

Sincerely,

I know this will not help you, but in 6.x they are separated.  Special Instructions is a separate box that can be edited from the eMAR by the nursing staff.
