[MEDITECH-L] BBK cultures of units

Does anyone have a test set up to do cultures on random plts and
transfusion reaction units to determine bacterial contamination? If so,
could you share your process? Thank you.

Hi Julee,
We have a test set up in our transfusion reaction that is "TXRX Culture
if indicated". If the tech selects culture indicated then it reflexes
to a "TXRX culture w/ Gram Stain" procedure in micro. The culture
includes a gram stain, and a report for 5 degree, 25 degree, 35 degree
incubation which is reported as final after 5 days.
