Hello everyone

The ad is in the hands of The Action Unlimited. I think it came out great with balloons around the border...street names in alphabetical order and the businesses in numerical order. There were some last minute changes therefore I do not have a proof of the final ad but have requested it to be sent to me. I will most likely print them off as needed to hand them out for people to walk around with (like a map) on the 21st.

Here are the costs related to The Wellness Day:
** $5 for the cost of making the sandwich/billboard sign, (currently on the  island at Main and Nason St) and a smiley balloon.
**$35.75 for the cost of the ad in The Action Unlimited

Deb Hledik and Zan Redfern will be collecting money for the Action Unlimited ad on Friday Oct 13 between 10am - 2pm only. Please have the check or cash ready when they show up. If you write a check, please write them out to The Action Unlimited. Let Deb or Zan know if you wish to get a receipt and you will receive one sometime later next week.

On Friday Oct 20th you will be responsible for picking up a smiley balloon at Call-A-Copy after 10am and for paying Eloyse $5 for the balloon and the sandwich sign she made. It is requested that all of us have a smiley balloon (which match the ones in the ad) for people walking the streets to easily recognize that you are a participant. If writing a check, please write it out Call-A-Copy Inc.
If you wish to have more than one balloon, you will be responsible for getting it. The Paper Store has them.

Nan Ri will have the "My business is a Wellness Day participant" ready to give you when Zan and Deb collect money on Friday.

Please let me know on Thursday the 12th, that you have received this e mail.

Any other questions call me @ 978-897-3914

Sincerely
Wil

I apologize for not getting back to you Will. CVS is still interested in participating, we are just trying to finalize things. If needed, I will still contribute to the costs for the ads placed and anything else we need to get. I will be in the store on saturday morning and can stop over your store or call you if needed.

I also wanted to see if there was any plans/interest to do anything for the holidays similar to what the Maynard Police do with the Toys for Kids. Maybe a similar type event geared at the troops over seas and collecting gifts and essentials that they may need over there, or working with another non profit organization.

Will.  It is 11 pm and I have received your email.  I cannot get out to the store with my checkbook between 10-2 on Friday. I don't keep the checkbook at the store.  Deb/Zan can collect 30.75 in cash from who ever is there when ever they come on Friday.  I would like a receipt for it.  Nanri can leave the poster there at that time.
Thanks for doing all the work.

That's a great idea! What about local homeless shelters or battered women's shelters? Sometimes they do have lists of specific items children want, so that could be tricky, but I think it's worth considering.

Will,

I do have my Fri afternoon person,Laurie, coming out from Lexington,
and she is there by 1:-1:30- and I'll get a check to her to bring out
to Maynard..

She'll have a check ready for you for 30.75. So, Debby or Zan, if
you come before that time, Ben (the a.m. person) will tell you that
Laurie will bring the check over to Teresina's when she comes at
1:00. When Laurie gets to Maynard she will check to see if you have
come by earlier- if so she will get it over to Teresina's. If you
have not come yet, she will have it at the store for you.

Re Paul's suggestion:
Great idea , Paul- let's all discuss this more.
I have collected winter clothing each Dec. for the Middlesex Human Services. They have Bristol Lodge in Watham as a meal place, but also service several shelters - men, women and family shelters.  They have really needed these clothes for the homeless - the men who go out on day labor jobs and need these clothes.  BTS (Before the Store) I used to do meals for them regularly.  We could expand this, could include other shelter services,   ideas?

What if each store had its own charity, and there was a big ad in Action Unlimited in which each one was advertised?

Just a thought, everyone combining to do one charity could have better results. But if each store owner has a cause that's near and dear to his/her heart, than this might feel better to the store owners, and that's important too.

Hi guys, the dollar signs in the subject line seem to be triggering my spam filter. It's okay cause for some reason I still get another copy at my inbox (real useful spam filter, huh?).

Anyway, just thought it might be helpful to some people to take the dollar signs out of the subject line (I'm just guessing that that's the cause, but it seems to make some sense).

I like to work with the most "local" charities.

Is there still a Meals on Wheels(deliver meals to housebound) program in Maynard? I never participated, but I know it used to be done, don't know who organized it.

We also used to do a raffle at times for the Food Pantry, which if I understand is a really local charity that gives back directly to the local community.

There will be the Beacon Santa marathon thru WAVM. A great event! I'd like to participate more in this. They use alot of the funds raised to help make Christmas happen for families with young children who are struggling.

The local Community Chest has some new members who are trying to get the organization active and more visible. They may haave some ideas. I'll check, as I have a contact with them thru the Chamber.

Which reminds me I think the Chamber has something to do with the Toys For Tots collection. I think the toys are stashed at Middlesex bank and sorted there for distribution. I'll check. I used to do Toys for Tots, but never had much response, so I would just tell people about where to drop elsewhere in town.

I'll gather some info and post.

A raffle for the food pantry is a great idea! During the holidays they put together dinners for families and you can also buy gifts for specific children (maybe adults too, I'm not sure).

If all the businesses pitched in, it would help increase the visibility of the raffle. I could be advertised, there could be a press release, there could be signs on the windows and every participating business could have a sign up sheet. And you could tell people about it as they are checking out as well, if that dididn't seem too awkward.

You could all pitchin for one big gift - maybe a shopping spree to include all participating businesses. Or each business could offer one item from their own store.

Mary Brannelly is in charge of the food pantry.

I like the idea of choosing different charities. Frommy experience of doing goods drive, some charities only have so much room to fit the goods collected.

People, getting to choose the charity(ies) that they would like to give to, is a good idea. The impact of several charities getting some goods spreads the goodness around.

I definitely like the idea of each storeowner(s) choosing a charity that is special to them.

No matter how it's done, it will help people, and there ain't nothing wrong with that! ;-)

Hello to Everyone,

These communications are great! In running two full time businesses, I don’t have time to get to the meetings and learn what is being planned. These e-mails are a wonderful way to keep in touch and informed, for me.

I will repeat my offer to list everyone involved in the Wellness Day on my web site, with an explanation of what you are offering. To see what is there now, go to http://www.startechhealing.com/Free_Events.htm

To have your business listed, and what you are offering, simply e-mail me with the information at bb...@verizon.net

Thanks to everyone who has volunteered to pick up checks, make posters, deliver posters, etc.

What a great downtown group we have!

Only on Maynard!!!

Hello Again,

I just spoke with Wil and thought through a further use of the website list I just wrote about.

When the list is more complete, I will send it out through this group.

You will then be able to forward e-mail the full list to all of your contacts to let them know what we are doing. The number of people we can reach this way (at no cost) with FULL INFORMATION is fantastic!

Hello To everyone involved in next week’s Wellness Day;

I have put together a Wellness Day Schedule attachment (not complete, not finished, and waiting for more info) that you can foreword to your patrons, clients, etc., via your own e-mail lists. You can add your own text in the message portion of your e-mail to personalize the message. The recipient can download and print the Schedule if they choose.

This is a way of potentially reaching thousands of people we all know, who might be more interested in us than the general public might be. The saying goes, market to your established customers first and get the best return. (or something like that). The ad in Action Unlimited is a great tool to reach the general public. Here is a way to connect with those who know us.

Please contact me directly at bb...@verizon.net  with any changes or additions to your listing.

I hope you like what I have put together for the group.

I will update my website as well, with the new information I have gotten from the Action Unlimited ad.

Hi Barry,

This looks great.  Thanks for doing it!!!!

I have a couple of small changes to the CD Willy's description.  Instead of saying "offering a representative", can you say "will have a teacher naturalist".  Also, it says "explore the FIENDS and forests"  could you change it to "fields"?  :)

And can you take out the word "healthful" before benefits.  I have no scientific proof getting outside is specifically healthful, altho I have plenty of personal opinions.  i'd rather keep the benefits more general.

Lastly, can the last part say  - locally grown, naturally raised foods.

thanks,

ellen

Ellen,

Thanks for catching my typos. They were not on the web site. I have made your other changes on the web site as well.

I tried to cut and paste the web text but could not re-format it the way I wanted, and had to re-type. I’m a dreadful typer.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. Hope this is better. If not perfect for you, make more changes.

Be Well,

Thanks for the corrections, comments and changes.

I have updated again, and moved the balloons away from the text. Does that stop the rearranging of text that you got Ellen?

I’m not sure what else to do. My original was fine. I am never sure what will happen to what I set up after it has gone out, and traveled the internet. Still learning here.

Hi Mary et al,
Thanks for your question. I'll be getting brochures for everyone from the Healing Garden tomorrow, I hope. I'll drop them off to you or come to ATELIER 10 and pick up the brochures. Hours are below. I'll keep track with a list of who has them or not. Come visit and see the new show, the opening today was a smash hit! Sold eight paintings of Pamela Merriam Esty, her show called Paintings of Untold Tales.
Also a great article in today's MetroWest about her work.
.
Could you each make a donation box using one of the brochures as a Logo on the box to collect $ in?? Then drop off the money, if you can, to me at my gallery the week after the event. I'll count it all up, report the sum to you all and give it to the Healing Garden from Maynard Downtown. I guess. How would I do this transaction?

What do you think of doing an article about the whole event in the aftermath and this donation would be part of the story, of course. Take pictures in your shops and studios on the Saturday 21st, perhaps. Or video! I will have a Multi Pure Water Filter Specialist as well as Qi Gong Meditation and Shiatsu practitioners.

Thanks. This is an uplifting and interesting process. I am looking forward to seeing how this all comes about.
Good working with you all.
To your health,

Nanri

Sorry if I missed this, you may have covered it, Has anyone gotten in touch
with the Beacon? Globe(probably too late, but next time), and asked Action
to run a public service announcement. Since we're buying ads they should be
able to squeeze in a little write up.

Speaking of next time(don't shoot me!), when will the Downtown be meeting?
Just so I can get my ads done on time I have to plan this out now.

Here's what I hope to do for holiday promotions:

Holiday Hours : Thanksgiving 'til Xmas M,T,W 10-6. Th, F, Sat 10-8, Sun 12-5

Th Nov 16th my tree will be up - TH. nite cookies and cocoa shopping

TH Nov 17th - Fri nite Men's special - free giftboxes and pretzels and
"beer"(root beer and Clausthaler non-a beer) - ad coupon for 10%off

Th Nov 30th Ladies Night - wine and nibbles, free giftboxes - free raffle

SN Dec 3rd - free raffle - donation collection for Parade - free
refreshments
Rotary Parade SN Dec 3rd 2PM
theme "Silver Bells"
Chamber Downtown promotion(TBD)

Th Dec 7th - special order jewelry deadline

Th Dec 14th - Downtown Holiday Stroll - ?????

Th Dec 21st - try not to fall down dead until 5PM SN Dec 24th

5:00 Sn Dec 24th - closed for the holidays. Reopen Tues Jan 2nd - Clean
Sweep Studio Clearance sale

Will the Downtown be doing a Holiday Stroll? Has a date been discussed? Do
we know who else might be doing what/conflict? PR thru Beacon? Reserve the
best ad space/page in Action?? It may already be late for doing this.

I have email out to the Community Chest and WAVM/Beason Santa to see
what/when they will be running holiday fundraising events

I have info and registration form for Parade. I'll run off some copies and
get them out to whoever might want to participate with a float and/or
donation. I will be collecting for the parade with a can. I know I don't
have the resources to do a float. The Chamber does a little PR thing. Judges
member window decorations and picks a "best window"- article in Beacon. I
think this happens Th before Parade.
If the weather is OK I'll have a very small set up outside with raffle and
hot mulled cider, free refreshments, and a collections tin for the parade.
Doubt there is a "rain" date. Details on the form are skimpy. I'll find out
more at the next Chamber meeting.
NOTE:
No replication of Santa, Mrs. Santa, elves, reindeer
No throwing or passing out of candy, literature or other gimmicks
Parade forms at CTP Sudbury St. lot. Step off 2PM

There are *two* write ups for Wellness Day in Action Unlimited. :-)

Haven't seen the Beacon Villager.

You have to write them yourself. I think Didi is on top of the PR, right
Didi?

If you do the charity thing, be sure to get the PR for it! It ends up
helping everyone in the end.

I'm having this sent out to my 700 email addresses. You're right
Barry about spreading the word in this network.

Hello to all Wellness Day participants!

I have updated the Wellness Day Schedule again with more information.
I have printed a copy of it and placed it by my office door so my
students and clients can see a "complete" listing of what to expect on
Saturday.
I will make a last-minute copy Friday and hang it on the street as a
Program of our event.
Making copies to distribute to the public is too expensive, but if each
Maynard Downtown Wellness Day participant prints one copy and places it
where the public can see it easily, a better attendance will be seen by
all of us.
Best of luck to everyone. I have already talked with many people who are
very excited about attending our event.
Only in Maynard!

CVS is finally all set for saturday. We will be offering free councilling to anybody that wants to bring their prescriptions into the store. we have coverage so that one of our regular pharmacists can offer a 1 on 1 consult to anyone interested. all you need to do is put all of your scripts into a bag and bring them in. their will be an unadvertised goody bag we will be giving out with some free samples and a couple of other items i was able to get. I am going to make a sign to post friday that states this and am more than willing to post any other notices at my entrance ways. Sorry i to cut it close, and i appreciate everyones patience. I will be in the store overnight tonight till 9-10:00 am and will probably be back sometime in the evening to make sure everything is all set for saturday as i will not be in. Any questions, let me know.
Paul
