Wow.
I fought the heat, and the heat won.......
My deep and sincere respect to those able to finish this event - it
was truly a test of everything that makes ultra's appealing -
logistics, knowledge of your own physiology, and unbending will.

Doug - thanks for putting on this event.  I don 't know if it will
ever happen again, but I'm sure the stories will float around for
years.
I'm REALLY glad everyone survived it, and I wanted to thank those of
you that took a personal interest in my well-being, especially Marie
Lewis  and Irene Russell.

Tom,

You forgot one of Ultras other appeals.

The people...

Doug's crew of passionate and experienced volunteers combined with a
field of of tough runners made it a day to savor.

Running many of those laps I felt like a musician playing a solo in
concert... Pouring my heart and soul into that moment to get me to the
next.

A brutal, unrelenting event.  Congratulations to Cheryl and my friends
the Finkles, and the winner (who I don't know, and was clearly in
another league from us mortals),  and congratulations to every runner
that showed up and put it on the line.  That's what it is all about...
The courage to enter a suffer-fest like the Hot Time 100 is a rare
commodity.

Never would have made it without my crew, pacer, volunteer, driver,
spouse, friend Mrs. Doom.

Cheers,
Doom

Yep - wouldn't be worth doing (or at least not as fun) without the
people.
And I have to agree with you, Team Doom has a solid anchor in Susan  -
she helped everyone out, not just you.

I notice Sweaty Butt is not on your race list?  :)

Off to the Outer Banks tomorrow, y'all take care.
Lounging around in the sun sounded like a lot more fun last week......

As I went on a 20-mile training run in the heat of the day on Saturday, I thought about all you brave, hardcore souls out there attempting the Hot Time 100.  As I was struggling to finish my measly 20, the thought of your finishing a 100 became unfathomable!  Wow.  Congrats to all those that were brave enough to try, and congrats to all those who pulled it off!

Brutal event.  A handful were brave enough to start.  Five were able to finish.  But among these (I am sure they all have amazing stories), I have to give mad props to Fred aka Mr. Doom.

He finished the Boogie 50 with his good friend and comrade, Mr. Castro, just two weeks before.  Hours later he delved deep into his ongoing Army missions, flying abroad, and then returned stateside just hours before the HT 100 began.  Despite these extreme adverse conditions, he toed the line, persevered and succeeded (with assistance from Ms. Doom).

Mr. Doom: you, my friend, are an inspiration on so many levels.  Thank you for all that you do.
