Catch your birds at night when they are on roost, cover their eyes with rubber gloved fingers (disposables available at Farm and Fleet), and spray their heads heavily so you do not have to repeat it soon.
The stuff doesn't come out of clothing well, but it wears off your skin within about 3 days.
I expected the red kote to be an attractant to pecking due to its color, but once the aggressors taste that red stuff, they stop pecking. Great for poopy chick butts.

| What is this blu kote stuff? Is is organic? I put that triple antibiotic ointment on mine. It worked, but I guess it's not organic? Susan --- On Wed, 7/8/09, Molly <flowera...@gmail.com> wrote: |

Thanks for the help! What I learned was that F&F on 51 doesn't carry it (or nobody knows where it is which is just as likely at that place) so I'll check Verona. Also, Murray McMurray charges 3X more, here's a much more reasonable price for mail orders http://www.pbsanimalhealth.com/cgi-local/SoftCart.exe/wound/blukote.html?E+scstore

I've used both blue and red kote on chickens. I didn't realize that there is a non-aerosol version. I've found the aerosol to work just fine.

| Years ago I got a fungal infection in my ears. How I don't know, but nothing would get rid of it. Some of the medications brought me to my knees in pain. I then had to go to the hospital everyday so they could vacuum out my ears. Anyway, they finally tried the old remedy of gentian violet. It worked. Dr. got some on his pants, however. haha. Hmm. They used to carry it. It should be with the cattle medicine. Perhaps they stopped, which would be unfortunate. But then, as you found, things are usually cheaper online.
