Hello all,
Today I'm releasing Beta 5 of Macfusion2. Grab it at the Trac site:
http://macfusionapp.org/trac

Please give it a try and do comment. This should be the last beta, and
will become final unless there are major issues found. I hope that
with the final version released, I can try to investigate some of the
more serious issues in the underlying SSHFS and FTPFS filesystems. The
goal will be to make Macfusion filesystems very responsive even on
slower networks using caching. I certainly can't guarantee I can make
the above happen, but I will do my best. If anyone with experience in
these areas would help with this important effort, please let me know.

Changes:
- Polish the UI in many places.
- Re-do preferences.
- Sparkle integration.
- Fast settings disabled by default, as they can cause issues with
permissions in write mode.
- FTP mounts should be writeable correctly now.

~ Michael

Great work. This is working really well for me except for one bug
which causes the application to crash. To reproduce the crash: I
have a sshfs drive in my configuration window. I right-click and
select edit. In the window that opens the "SSH" tab is highlighted.
If I click on the "SSH Advanced" and then immediately on the
"Macfusion" tab the application will crash. If I click on the
"Macfusion" tab first after opening the edit dialog without clicking
on the "SSH Advanced" tab the application will not crash. Does this
happen for you? Thanks.

As a first-time MacFusion user, I tried your latest Beta5 with no
apparent success. The first time I launched it asked to start the
MacFusion service; I didn't check the "Start on login" box but told it
to start the service. It then showed a "Macfusion" window with no
enabled controls, and menus with no usefully enabled items. I
restarted MacFusion and this time was asked if it should check for
updates. I said "yes", and then was shown the same window and menus,
with no useful choices. Restarted again; this time wasn't asked any
questions, but ended up in the same place.

I do have MacFUSE installed (I've been using sshfs). Am I missing
something? (I'd be happy to supply more info, or test whatever you
like.)

Thanks,
Dan

Hi,

I have exactly the same problem as Dan. I've installed MacFuse 1.5.1 a
few days ago, waited for MacFusion beta5 because I heard beta4 had
some problems, downloaded beta5 today, and I can't do anything because
menu items are grayed out and there's no icon in the menu bar.

Hello,

Just to say me too:) I reverted to beta 4, which works very nicely.

Beta5 gave me the same issues as Dan and Jakub.

Michael found the problem and sent me a fixed version. I presume
he'll be releasing it in the not too distant future.

He said the problem only appeared when no volumes had been previously
defined. So, perhaps if you define a couple of volumes with Beta 4
and then try Beta 5 all will be sweetness and light.

That echoes my own experience,

Just pushed out an update by Sparkle: Beta 6. Get it on the trac site
or by clicking check for updates.

I'm still getting the autoupdate update process ironed out. You might
see a crash at the end of Sparkle update. The crash is now fixed, and
the update should go through fine. Beta 6 fixes several noticed bugs,
especially the one where all controls are disabled if you have no
filesystems set up. Please write back on whether things are now fixed
up.

Me too, thank you very much.

One small detail remains, though:

The menu item does not show up when I start MacFusion manually as
opposed to upon login. I think it used to do so. (this is not heavily
investigated - I strongly dislike to log out...)

I mounted an ssh share at home and it showed as a green icon on my
desktop. Now I tried the same on my work computer, and the share
mounted too, but no icon appeared on the desktop. Do you know what may
be the reason of this?... (both computers have OSX Leopard, same
version of MacFuse and MacFusion. the work computer had MacFusion
beta5 installed yesterday, I overwrote it with beta6 today)

JS,
Check finder preferences. Make sure "Show network volumes" is enabled.

You're right, it was disabled, thanks.
