take place in Helsinki, Finland on July 5-9, 2008. Participation by
students, researchers and practioners of machine learning from
academia, industry, government and other organizations is welcomed.

(Note that May 2nd is the last day that many hotel rooms will be
specially reserved for ICML attendees. See below for details.)

This year's conference will feature the following highlights:

* Oral presentation of over 150 technical papers.
* Invited talks by
Michael Collins, TBD
Andrew Ng, "The STanford Artificial Intelligence Robot project"
Luc De Raedt "Logical and Relational Learning Revisited"
John Winn, "Probabilistic models for understanding images"
* Two poster sessions allowing participants greater opportunity to
interact with speakers.
* A conference banquet at a castle on an island---the Suomenlinna Sea
Fortress (a UNESCO World Heritage Site).
* Tutorials (July 5)
"Painless embeddings of distributions: the function space view"
Alex Smola, Arthur Gretton, and Kenji Fukumizu
"Stochastic optimal control theory"
Bert Kappen, Marc Toussaint
"Dimensionality Reduction the Probabilistic Way"
Neil Lawrence
"Graphical models and variational methods"
Martin Wainwright
"Playing Machines: Machine Learning Applications in Computer Games"
Ralf Herbrich, Thore Graepel
"Beyond Convexity: Submodularity in Machine Learning"
Andreas Krause, Carlos Guestrin
"Tutorial on Theory and Applications of Online Learning"
Shai Shalev-Shwartz, Yoram Singer
"Visual Object Recognition and Retrieval"
Rob Fergus
"Sparse Linear Models: Bayesian Inference and Experimental Design"
Matthias Seeger
* Workshops (July 9), jointly organized by ICML, the 21st Annual
Conference on Learning Theory (COLT 2008) and the 24th Conference on
Uncertainty in Artificial Intelligence (UAI 2008), both of which
will take place immediately following ICML in Helsinki. See
