Subject: Postdoc & PhD opportunities in Geotechnologies (Ireland)
Post-Doctoral Fellowships and funded PhD studentships, NUIM, Dublin,
Ireland for
Strategic Research in Advanced Geotechnologies (StratAG)
The National Centre for Geocomputation (NCG) was established in Oct.
2004 through the award of a Research Professorship to its Director,
Prof. Stewart Fotheringham, by Science Foundation Ireland (SFI). It is
rapidly establishing itself as a state of the art geospatial research
centre. More recently, SFI have awarded the NCG €9m in research
funding to initiate Strategic Research in Advanced Geotechnologies
(StratAG). The Cluster is a consortium of departments drawn from NUI
Maynooth, Trinity College Dublin (TCD), the Dublin Institute of
Technology (DIT) and University College Dublin (UCD). This new
research group is based around four geospatial research areas or
strands; Sensors, Algortithms, Visualisation & Location-Based
Services(LBS).

We are now recruiting Postdoctoral Research Fellows and PhD students.
Sensor Integration & Wireless Sensor Networks (ST1)
Digital Photogrammetry/Data Fusion (ST2)
Machine Vision (ST3)
Geospatial Algorithms (ST4)
Advanced Visualisation (ST5)
LBS (ST6)
For postdoc positions, duties will include conducting research,
publishing in international refereed journals, assisting PhD students
and generally helping with the activities of StratAG and NCG.

Candidates will:

have at PhD in relevant discipline
demonstrate an ability to perform, document and publish independent
research,
be highly motivated to work in a rapidly evolving field,
be personable and be able to work with a diverse group of
researchers,
be adaptable and able to handle a wide range of tasks.
The Fellowship is €46,043 p.a. in year one. The appointments start on
August 1, 2008 or as soon as possible thereafter. PhDs are likely to
start in 2009. Applications for the above positions, to include
