Subject: Postdoc position for machine learning applied to information extraction
We are looking for three post-doctoral research fellows interested in
working on the application of information extraction (IE) in natural
language processing (NLP), using approaches such as unsupervised, semi-
supervised, active or transfer learning. The goal of the project is to
develop technologies for (1) an adaptive IE system that adapts to new
domains or templates with little or no training data, or (2) an IE
system capable of discovering IE templates in an unannotated corpus.

The principal investigator of this project is Dr. Hai Leong Chieu (DSO
National Laboratories), with the following collaborators
1) Assoc Prof Wee Sun Lee, National University of Singapore (NUS)
2) Asst Prof Jing Jiang, Singapore Management University (SMU), and
3) Asst Prof Ivor Tsang, Nanyang Technological University (NTU).

Successful candidates will work in Singapore, in either NUS, SMU or
NTU during a two years duration. There is a strong research community
in Singapore, particularly in the area of NLP. Leading conferences in
NLP such as SIGIR-2008 and ACL-2009 were or will be held in Singapore.
Singapore is a cosmopolitan city situated at the crossroad of
Southeast Asia. It represents a blend of cultures, customs, and, very
importantly in Singapore, cuisines. More information about Singapore
is available at http://www.sg/.

This is a two-year postdoc position. Candidates should have strong
computational background in areas such as machine learning or natural
language processing. Interested candidates should send a C.V. to  Hai
Leong Chieu at chail...@dso.org.sg.
