Hello, All.
Taking a break from my Elites and Sevens, to examine some boxes of
old Lotus records, including original USA dealer order sheets and the
following:
When Lotus was at Hornsey, they produced specification sheets for
each of the following cars. Lotus Seven (Super, Basic and Export).
Eleven ("Sports", "Le Mans" and "Club". Elite, Fifteen, Seventeen and
Formula 2.
These lightweight beige A4 sheets are printed on both sides with each
model (except the Seventeen) having a profile side view picture at the
top with LOTUS CARS and below: LOTUS Engineering Co. Ltd. HORNSEY,
London, N.8 Tel: FITzroy 1777. All the top printing and car photo
are in a light green colour.
A nice piece of work with many specification details: ie frame, front
suspension, power unit, petrol tank, instruments, bodywork , wheels and
tyres, dimensions, extras.
My guess, is, these were advertising sheets to be used by the factory
and dealers. Sadly no date on any of the sheets.
I was at the old Hornsey building last August, after Silverstone, as
my sister, a 26 year London Hornsey resident is only a 7 minute walk up
Tottenham Lane.
I will bring these specification sheets over next year for those
that might have an interest to copy them. Just a fun bit of early Lotus
history.
Hope everyone is enjoying the early spring sunshine.
67F today, in our San Francisco Bay Area, so, please pop in for some
driving enjoyment, as my Elites and Seven have full petrol tanks, even
at 4 bucks per gallon!
Cheers. Mike.
NB for you Eleven owners, the section on brakes for the Sports and Club
models, says: "Hydraulically operated two leading shoe drum brakes.
Cast iron drums 9 in. (299 mm) diameter at the front, 8 in. (203 mm) at
the rear." The Le Mans model specs. "Ultra light hydraulically
operated 9 1/2 in. (241 mm) disk brakes, outboard at the front, inboard
at the rear".
