Here's an update on the second Awares international online
autism conference, being held between October 4-11, 2006.
The online conference, entirely free of charge, will feature
the largest ever gathering of more than 40 world autism experts,
including people with autism and leading academics. They will all be
available from to answer your questions.
Among the new names added to the list of speakers since my
previous email are: Professor Simon Baron-Cohen, director of the Autism
Research Centre in Cambridge, UK; Chris and Gisela Slater-Walker (a
married couple who provide two brilliant papers on living with Chris's
Asperger's syndrome); Dr Darold Treffert, the world's leading expert on
autistic savants; Dr Karen Pierce, of the Department of Neurosciences
at the University of California, San Diego; Dr Janet Kern, of the
University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, and Dr Diane Williams,
assistant professor in the Department of Speech-Language Pathology at
Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Anyone is welcome to log on - parents, people with autism,
researchers, practitioners, teachers and social workers. Please take a

Shattock and Dr Karl Reichelt, two of the world's leading experts on
autism and diet; Dennis Debbaudt, the world's top authority on training
the emergency services to recognise and understand autism; Jacqui
Jackson, mother of seven children (including four on the autistic
spectrum) and her son, Luke, a well-known author and speaker with
Asperger's syndrome, and Dr David Skuse, a leading expert on the
genetics of autism.
