I just chose port 1081 to avoid using a default port and ensure there
was no conflict in case other apps wanted to use port 1080.
But yes, I changed it in AVPN. I also tried port 1080, does not work
either.

Sorry for delay.

Why are you using port 1081? Have you changed it in AVPN (by default
it will setup proxy on SOCKS default port which is 1080)?

I should add, that if I do this in terminal:

ssh -D 1081 username@servername -p port

it works just fine in Firefox and I can telnet to 1081 etc.

So the problem seems to be within AlmostVPN, even though it does not
report anything... ?

When I create a SSH server connection, and enable Dynamic Proxy,
FireFox will report "Firefox is configured to use a proxy server that
is refusing connections.". I can also see, that if I telnet to the
proxy port (port 1081), the connection is refused.

This on Mac OS X 10.5.4, latest updates. AlmostVPN 1.6/226.

Are you getting "Fatal Error ... contact leaping bytes" dialog? If
you are, then most likely the reason is not iTunes, but recent
(actually it is not so recent any more) Java update. You need to
install latest build of AlmostVPN 1.6/226. Do no bother with "un-
installing", you can just install it on top of old version.

I have found that since yesterday my AlmostVPN is not working, since
that time I have only installed two
applications:

1/ Microsoft intelimouse prefpane for OS X (since removed)
2/ Itunes 7. Update.

I can no longer even open the AlmostVPN Prefpane, I am not sure if
this is directly related to itunes or not,

Port Conflict

I'm getting the following error:

Port conflict! Fail to lock port 1080 on 127.0.0.1
I'm using version 1.6/226

It was working fine until recently.

Any help you can offer is appreciated.

Yep... The E option caused the problem. I have added the logging of
the event. I was using GNU sed version 4.1.5 at the time of the
problem.
This is the logging of the event:

Which version of "sed" have you tried to use?
This is the command AVPN is using
sed -E "1,1s/[ ]+/ /g"
come to think of it, "-E" is not quite standard option (at least sed
which comes with FC does not have this option). Was it the case of
the problem? Did your version of sed choked on "-E"?

I found the cause of my problem. This had nothing to do with the
10.5.4 upgrade. I analyzed the log file and it I found that sed was
causing my problem.

Just before upgrading to 10.5.4 I replaced the default installed /usr/
bin/sed with an other version. This version did not work with AVPN.
Switching back to the default version of sed fixed all of my problems.

I'am using the latest version of AVPN. I did try to reboot (and fix
file permissions) but the problem still persists.
