LAFD_ALERT is a free service of the Los Angeles Fire Department

LAFD_ALERT is a text message service that seeks to offer timely notification of newsworthy Fire Department incidents throughout the City of Los Angeles.

LAFD_ALERT is for casual public interest, and does *NOT* constitute an official warning or advisory system. Messages are *NOT* official instructions, permission or encouragement to take action. There is no guarantee as to the frequency, timeliness or accuracy of postings. Most information will develop over time, and we discourage speculation.

LAFD_ALERTs include: a tentative incident address, Fire Station (FS) 'district' and Thomas Guide map coordinate (MAP) - but not a specific community name. Along with a brief narrative, we include the LAFD Radio Channels assigned to the incident and a timestamp indicating when the first call was received at 9-1-1. 

IMPORTANT: There may be multiple messages (and updates of key details) for the benefit of news media. Those receiving LAFD_ALERTs via wireless device may incur personal charges based upon their service plan. You may wish to view the on-line archive of LAFD_ALERT messages to determine if this system is right for you.
