Love On The Bridges Of Holland **

18 September 2002

(Version 2.2
on 12 Sept 2005)

'

Wild ducks,
and gentle wind,
play on and ripple soothingly
the surface of the water.

'

Red bricks form walls, aged centuries,
when up they rise from water's way
to pave a quay - for barges to unload
where waterways are major streets
to give the town its life.

'

Behind the quay, the bricks rise up again,
and then - much higher now - lie down once more:

To pave the narrow streets that look now down
upon the quay, along the waterway - 'the old canal.'

'

And then across these narrow streets,
some bricks a third time reach for heaven...
for people building there the typical facades
of Dutch and narrow houses.

'

The other bricks do pave the streets in front,
and where they meet the waterway again,
they arch to bridges old a thousand years by now.

'

'

Embracing thousand years of people living there,
with one glance of my eye,
that's where I walked, in Holland.

'

And on her bicycle, a woman passed me by.
She looked me in the eye and asked:
"Are you a real angel?"

This was on Christmas Day,* so people are
more curious to see and feel who's there:

Allowed they feel
to be the love they are
so natural.
