Martin Olson is proposing the 23rd of this month. How does that work for everyone? He and I will cover highlights of the Agile 2009 conference we attended last week in Chicago from 08/23/09 through 08/28/09:

The state of Agile and where it is headed
   Kool tools
Great quotes from thought leaders like Alistair Cockburn and Mary Popendieck
   Insights on specific topics like:

Ways to sell Agile to executives
Test Driven Development tips and tricks
      Coaching and mentoring
      More

One thing for sure, when Microsoft starts passing out "playing cards for planning poker" you know Agile has gone mainstream.

Mark - where did you read that MSFT is using planning poker? I saw the
reference to them using wideband delphi, but not planning poker.

I picked up a planning poker card deck at their booth at the conference. It
is emblazoned with their logo. I'll bring it to the meeting.

Heh this doesn't surprise me... ms has integrated agile/backlog things into VSTS. I am starting to hate "Agile" and "Scrum" as buzzwords. The people using it wrong are causing more problem than the people refusing to use it.

Not that I'm implying Microsoft is using it wrong... they're just capitalizing on it and influencing people to misinterpret it by boxing it up as a plugin for visual studio.

There were at least two sessions at the conference where the proposal to
drop the terms "Agile" and "Extreme Programming" was discussed. I've seen it
all before back when you were nothing if you were not "object oriented."

I have seen a distinct shift at these conferences over the past 4 years.
They used to emphasize discovery of best practice and how to introduce the
new techniques, while at this one I sensed a shift toward coaching and
mentoring strategies, and ensuring all parts of the organization get
reached.
