  I&#39;m not really sure, but I&#39;ll bet that it is because the key compared by &lt;br&gt; memory address, making it completely unnecessary, and possibly excessive to &lt;br&gt; have a type definition. it might also save the compiler from needing to &lt;br&gt; perform type erasure.
