On April 22, the British Association of University Teachers voted to
boycott two Israeli universities - Haifa and Bar Ilans - because of
their failure to speak out against the Israeli government's attacks
on Palestine. The boycott will follow a plan proscribed by a group of
60 Palestinian academic and cultural bodies, which calls for academics
to sever links with Israeli institutions, exempting those individuals
and organisations that speak out against the brutal occupation of
Palestine. A motion to boycott Hebrew university was deferred, after
queries were raised about the claim that it evicted Palestinians to
build dormitories. Some delegates complained that insufficient time was
given to opposition to the boycott in the debate.

Dear sir/madam During the Salmon Rushdie debacle of the late 80s,
former CIA man George Bush lead the Gulf massacre of the 90¹s; before
and after the September 11 tragedy, many sections of the media went on
to ostracise, vilify and thereby unfairly promote prejudice and bigotry
against Australians of Arab and Muslim background. However, NOT one
Muslim nor one Arab Australian was ever convicted of any offence
relating to the above mentioned unwarranted incidences. I therefore
would like to request that you take necessary action leading to
prevention of the wholesale prejudice and bigotry against Australians
of Arab and Muslim background.A particular focus on the conduct of the
Sydney radio talk - back industry would be a useful starting point.

The News: The European academics have suspended contact with their
Israeli counterparts and they will continue to do so untill andunless
Israel starts a meaningful peace negotiation with the Palestinians.

counterparts footstep and found themselves under attack from the
