Subject: New regulations and procedures affecting the NGOs in Sri Lanka
Dear all,

CIDA Program Support Unit has published a document about:
"New regulations and procedures affecting the NGOs in Sri Lanka"

Summary

The Government of Sri Lanka (GoSL) has introduced new regulations and
procedures for International NGOs (INGOs). Under previous
arrangements, all INGOs (and local NGOs as well), fell under the
provisions of the Voluntary Social Services Organizations
(registration and Supervision) Act (VSSOA). Accordingly, INGOs were
required to register with the NGO Secretariat under the Ministry of
Social Services. INGOs were also required to submit all reports and an
annual audited financial statement to the same Secretariat. In turn,
the Secretariat assisted INGOs in such areas as obtaining visas for
foreign staff. Most INGOs also had Memorandums of Understanding with
line ministries depending on their main sectors of activities.
