Subject: Beeflies and Whooper Swans
Hi

The earliest date I have on record for beeflies is 1 April so if you
have time go out and look for them today.

I tried looking yesterday but work is not conducive to good biological
recording.

I came across this wonderful link to migrating Whooper Swans:

http://whooper.wwt.org.uk/whooper

Well worth following as lots happening.

Regards
Jimmy

How do you train them so well, Jimmy?  I have just seen >=10 fresh emerged Beeflies at an old quarry near Muir of Ord!  I don't think I have ever seen so many together at one time before.  All very smart and unfaded, and sun-bathing on stones.  Also the first queen wasp (Tree Wasp D. sylvestris) of the year, and the first cuckoo-bee Bombus bohemicus of the year, both very sleepy, and obviously just out of hibernation.

I had a Green-veined White in Tain on 2nd.
I had a Common Blue and Small Copper today but that was in the valley
of the Rhine!!
The earliest I have had beefly at Shandwick in the past is 24th April
and I won't be back to check until 23rd.  If anyone else has the
chance the site was NH 856 739 just behind the Shandwick "Bus-stop".
