Eugene Bike Safety Issues (leaves) flickr group - The system works!

A flickr group has been setup for pictures of Eugene Bike Safety
issues to aid advocates. The link and description is here:

Please join and upload problems when you see them. Instructions are on
that page on how to upload from your cell phone. I use the pictures
when I report problems to the city.

Also, THE SYSTEM WORKS! I reported the Fox Hollow / Dillard bike
intersection (not even a car road) and within 24 hours it was
cleared!!

Thanks so much to GEARS and all the advocates who worked so hard to
make this happen! This is one of the most tangible steps forward in
Eugene cycling that I've ever seen. Reversing the city's policy and
having them create a website and hot line was amazing and inspired.
Thanks so much for your hard work and giving us normal people the
tools to help.

Excellent work you're doing out there. Thank you I appreciate not having to deal with the leaves. I called the Leaf Hotline yesterday concerning leafs blocking both bike lanes on Pearl from 16 to 17. They wanted to know which side of the street was blocked rather than just take the info. I told them both sides. Big improvement!

This is brilliant! Who thought of this? I'm glad to see that it can
be used for other bike issues--not just leaves.

How about a Flickr site cataloging small improvements that would make
a big difference to bicyclists such as paving some of the the short
gravel connector paths leading to the River Bank trail or dangerously
high driveway lips that need grinding.

Allen, feel free to use the site for that as well. The idea of it is
to expose any safety issue - so take a picture of the gravel trail and
high lip and post it with an explanation. Then when our wonderful
GEARS representatives go do their thing with the city (and I really
have no idea how they get the stuff done that they get done) they'll
have photographic evidence of the changes we need.

Tomorrow I'm going to set up another group for positive things at

without publicly highlighting how awesome Eugene is for riding leads
to bad "Bikema" :) We did go Gold for a reason!

An upcoming accomplishment relates to LCC.

 

I heard from a representative there last week that after increasing calls for more bike parking that they have finally purchased some additional noodles. Currently they are investigating where they should be installed. I suggested considering:

·         Protection from the weather

·         Avoid locating them in places which would increase chances for theft

·         Try to place them in high visibility areas.

·         In general I suggested that they consider the message that the placement sends. Does it say we (LCC) have to put up with bikes and we’re just doing this to stop the complaints, or is the message that we love and appreciate bicyclists as valid members of the LCC community whom we value.

 

That was my input and I don’t know if it was transmitted, but perhaps someone else who knows the “right” person to contact could relay the message more strongly or offer more experienced advice.
