Our goal is to use an interesting site from here for our Site Clinic
in Friday's chat, where we'll look at the site and offer our thoughts
on accessibility and other issues that are of broad concern to
webmasters.
The goal of my site is to provide free unbiased price comparison.
This meas that no payment is made for product placements within the
site .
This allows folk to see the real prices for goods that would not be
obviously on display on the homepage for example.
We use an algorithm that dispalys the most popular items in the
prominent places
This helps people who are sometimes undecided on what to buy.
The PROBLEM is that only a fraction of the products as shown in Google
via search
sometimes the search results appear then disappear for weeks, The site
seems
to be in some verification state within Google

I'm a complete novice to webmastering. No formal training
whatsoever... :-)
I built my site mainly because I adore our dog, Bodjie, and want it
share such beautiful experience with everyone on the internet, dog-
lover or not. The URL is http://bodjie.homestead.com
The website's goal is simply to share our family's love for our pet
dog and offer whatever relevant information we can offer about dogs in
general to whoever visits the site. Unique or not, as long as we feel
any information could be something of value to a surfer, we want it
available on the website, as much as we can, given our limitations,
which are mainly technical.
Of course, we'd be more than happy if the site raises some revenues
from targeted ads so it could stand on its own, financially
(addressing maintenance costs, that is).
The main challenge that the 3-month old site is facing right now is
increasing traffic, volume ranking comfortably in SERPs. I'm not
saying that we want the highest ranking in the SERPs (although we'd be
happy if we do) because we know we still have a long way to go in
terms of SEO.

Not the site specifically, but aligning markup for the expansion of
the handheld market - quite a big issue over here in Europe.
Oddly, it's a spin-off from a gimmick. Practically all poserphones
now on sale have cameras built in - and of course to support those
they have fairly high-resolution displays. So much so (I wandered
around CEX in Sheffield yesterday) that even poserphones coming onto
the secondhand market en masse have no room on their fronts for
keyboards - they're almost all ( 19 of 20 ) slider-type designs.
These things have ( weight for weight ) incredibly capable XHTML
browsers - some are OpenWave based, some Opera, some Mini-Opera, etc.
One section of my site (hobby) is designed to assist Audi quattro
owners. Audi built 11,000 quattros - three a day by hand over 11
years. I've designed that section of the site to use relative
addressing, and I'm rolling out XHTML 1.0 Strict and CSS to make the
pages accessible from handhelds. The reasons for relative addressing
are that I can test the structure offline, and I can burn the site
into a RS-MMC card (for instance) and use it in a handheld without
network access.
I'm very interested in the future of handheld technology (
http://www.isham-research.co.uk/handheld-friendly.html ) but I don't
see that future in artificial partitioning of the web into mobile and
non-mobile sectors - that seems to me to be against the whole ethos of
a single web.
I am so glad Google is coming out in this way to interact with people.
I think you all are GREAT! I hope the following problems can get
resolved ASAP!
http://www.cypressindustrial.com/ Goal of the website is to promote the various services offered
Problem: It seems our website is buried down in rankings due to
various directories which are VERY big.
http://store.everything-neon.com/ Goal of the website is to sell Neon Signs online.
Problem: we are the largest manufacturer/importer of neon signs, and
several websites are copying content/material from our website. Still
they are ranked top and not us.

CHALLENGE #1 - Become the # 1 Google search result for the term "Throw
Blanket" - We stock over 2,000 different theme throw blankets. I
believe we are the number one suppliers of Throw Blankets in the
world.
CHALLENGE #2 - Become the #1 Google search result for the term "Wall
Tapestries" -........
I feel guilty being so focused on selling, but that is what we do for
a living.

URL: http://www.redkaraoke.es/ Goal:
- Free web karaoke for everywhere in the world to sing online, find
and share karaokes and vote for performances. We plan to add new
languages and give international rankings of singers
Problem #1 Duplicate Content:
- lots of multimedia content: our differencial content is audio, the
textual content describing it is very similar to that lyrics and music
sites about singers and songs. We plan to add lyrics, but how can we
then differenciate from those lyrics sites? We really add value but
the googlebot is blind to it as the value, and the original content
(the performances) is in the multimedia content
- when we add the different languages, how can we avoid to demote the
site by duplicates? The name of author, song and other related
information stays the same
Problem #2 Internal Duplicates:
- tags/categories navigation/pagination: which is best?
- case sensitive URLs
I am pretty sure my website has been dinged for selling paid links.
Can you confirm this?
I now know this is against the Google guidelines and will do what it
takes to make changes to the website so that we can have the demotion
removed. My question is can I still continue to sell links on the
website as long as I add the nofollow attribute and clearly mark these
URLs as advertising? Or do I need to stop advertising through text
ads completely?
After the proper adjustments and changes have been made, can I at that
time file for a re-inclusion request and then expect to get back in?
If so how long would it take?
Site: www.fwbusinesspress.com Goal: weekly business newspaper
Problem: continue to get 404 Not Found errors in Webmaster Toolbox and
have no idea where this very old 3yrs old links are coming from. Site
was redesign.

The company's niche is products of interest to electronics design
engineers. The site's been online for about 10 years hosted by Yahoo
Store.
My concern is that we liberally use images on our website and although
I have started to name the newer images with descriptive file names
there are still hundreds if not thousands of them that are still
numbered. With tons of new content to put up I don't really have the
time to go through every image and rename it and also rearrange the
content of every page which is necessary because of how Yahoo Store is
setup. I wonder how much this is hurting the ranking of existing
pages with numbered images.
Also we use many Flash based demos of our courses and I haven't
figured out a proper way to optimize the content of the demos to make
them search engine friendly without making the page look retarded.

To provide exemplary service to photographers looking for expert
advice about the equipment they need to capture amazing images, and to
make pictureline.com the ultimate photographer destination.
http:americanmadeyes.com Public service site. Main challenge: to
properly script our sitemap xml file so it can be found. Thank you

Our site is an online resource for higher education. Our goal is to
provide comprehensive information about various degree programs and
fields of study so that consumers can make informed choices, and find
the right school to suit individual aspirations and goals. There are
thousands of informational pages dedicated to individual fields of
study and specific degree programs, as well as a list of more than
1,700 accredited colleges, universities, and online schools.
In our SEO efforts, we have posted a great deal of content on other
sites like EZineArticles, IdeaMarketers, and networking sites like
Squidoo and MySpace. We have had good results; but we are looking to
refine this processs to improve results.
Our Question: When posting content on other sites, is it helpful to
vary the anchor text in links to a specific page? (For instance, the
anchor text "online colleges" or "online degrees" linked to a page
titled "online schools".)
Or, is it better to use only the exact anchor text linked to the page
with the same title every time? (such as always using the anchor text
"online schools" when linking to the page "online schools"; and always
using anchor text "online colleges" when linking to the page "online
colleges", etc.)
Also, some have said that linking the page's URL is better than
linking anchor text. Is that true?
Thank you for your consideration to our questions about linking. We
look forward to the live chat on Friday.

URL: http://www.cartridgecapital.com Goal: To offer brilliant service @ the best prices for all printer
cartridges.
Challenge: To get noticed on the web and have all our products
indexed.
We are a very new site with very little web experience, have been up
and running for 4 weeks after 1 year eveloping the website. The
problem is trying to get noticed, even though our quality is good with
keywords e.t.c, we just can't seem to rise up the search rankings, is
it because we're new? P.S. Fantastic idea this google!

I am CTO of WebTrain. www.webtrain.com.
I've been involved in the web arena far longer than Google itself.
Our new site is being dropped on April 30th: htttp://www.webtrain.com/default.asp I would like to take you up on your offer for site review.
We've applied many techniques to provide the user with best
navigation, the site utilizes complex CSS.
It has (I beleive), the best CSS menu you have ever seen.
It is W3C complient, 0 errors, and utilizes techniques to ensure menu
duplication does not affect content.
Content is original, creative, has tremendous depth, we've even had
physcologists review the content and employed proven selling
techniques.
Keywords and such as based upon content, truly a fully optimized site,
complete with XML site map etc.
We have 600,000 members and have been in business for 7 years.
Review and comments would be appreciated.
