Hi DLO
I should really just be pointing you to the Gmail (
http://groups.google.com/group/Gmail-Help-Discussion ) and Google Apps
groups ( http://groups.google.com/group/apps-discuss ), but I thought
I'd throw in a pointer or two since I recently did something similar
for my wife. I moved my wife's email from a normal POP3 account with
Outlook to Google Apps, which worked great. The advantage of Google
Apps over just Gmail is that you can use your own domain for the email
addresses, meaning you don't have to change a thing if you later
decide to move elsewhere (and it just looks nicer anyway).
You can import contact through a CSV file (
http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=8301 ) and
either set up the IMAP information for your Google Apps email account
in Outlook and just copy all the mail over or use one of the third
party tools to do that (I imagine they also take the contacts, but I'm
not sure on that). I let that run over night for my wife, she's got a
lot of large mails. She likes it and it just works, what more do I
need :-).
For more information on moving from Outlook to Google Apps, you might
want to search for "migrate outlook to google apps", there are a few
detailed reports out there with more information and all the steps in
between. If you run into questions, check the Google Apps group, I'm
sure there are either similar threads or at least great people who are
willing to help you.
To pull up the English version of Google wherever you are, you can
just add "&hl=en" (or "?hl=en" if no other parameters are in the URL)
to the end of the URL, for example instead of just http://www.google.com
, use http://www.google.com?hl=en . You can also navigate to the
search settings and change it there, but if you can't read anything,
it might be hard to find them.
I hope it helps + have a great new year!
John
