The error that is reported is this: Line: 3 Nested indexing This URL refers to a Sitemap index, not a Sitemap. Please remove it and resubmit.
This is incorrect...the URL refers to a Sitemap, not a Sitemap index. I have other sitemaps that use the exact same structure and those are not throwing an error. Please review this and let me know what I'm doing wrong....I've been pulling my hair out on this for two days, I've quadruple checked it...read all of your online docs...your system is throwing an incorrect error, and only for the www.AudioSparx.com site.
I've tried deleting and resubmitting the sitemap, with the same error occurring each time. I firmly believe something's gone haywire with your error detection system. Please advise.

Even though that example only has one sitemap file in it, these files are generated by custom script that we developed. Some of our categories have multiple sitemap files in them, so it is helpful to split it all up into multiple files so any particular sitemap index file and sitemap file does not get so large as to overrun the file size limitations inherent in the sitemap protocol. We leave it this way for the sake of consistency. Even so, this is not a problem for us...it works just fine on our stockmusicsite.com site, but on the audiosparx.com site, we get these erroneous errors.

Also, Google, let me add that I think the problem is caused by some kind of caching problem...during an early submission of our recently revised sitemap files, we did have some errors that would result in the error that is being thrown. We corrected the problem that was causing the error and resubmitted the sitemaps, but your sitemap indexer/parser seems to not be seeing the newly re-submitted corrected files properly. Is there a way to clear the cache of what your indexer/parser is seeing?

It's great to see you submitting sitemap files for a site that large. It really helps our systems to understand your site better, especially if you submit updates regularly. However, by regularly updating your sitemap and sitemap-index files it is hard to track down the source of a specific problem. In your case I would suggest double and triple checking your scripts to make sure that nested sitemap index files can not be created accidentally. If you feel secure that this is the case then I would create a new set of files, resubmit them to Google and wait until the 'Sitemap Status' column changes from 'Pending' to 'OK' (or 'Errors' or 'Warnings'). Once the status is 'OK', feel free to submit regular changes again.
Hope it helps! John
PS I noticed that the URLs listed in your sitemap file seem to have the same lastmod-date. To further improve crawling and indexing of your site, you could supply the actual date of the last change in your content. Small hints like that can really help to optimize finding new content, which in turn can give your site an advantage in our search index.
