We own and operate cliovillage.com, when you search for cliovillage in
google, it suggests the search term 'cleavage'. Is it possible to
manually disable this from Google's end? As it is quite an unfortunate
word to be linked with and it is very unlikely that cliovillage could
be a typo of cleavage!

All the best,

Josch Young

Josch,

I can understand your frustration.  When I used to search for my own
last name, I'd always get "Did you mean: Lasik?" (and I know that
that's not as loaded a word).

Unfortunately, all of these corrections are determined algorithmically
and can't be altered at this time.  I can imagine, however, that over
time our system will learn / become familiar with your company's name
and make correction-adjustments accordingly.

The spellchecker picks "cliovillage"  as a typo and offers these
alternate spelling suggestions:
clavicle
cleavage
camouflage

Take your pick ;)

For  my webside it's decided it's a typo of "weirdo" and for my last
name it's apparently a typo of "smooching" .

Before you do too much more -- how many people actually use it as a
search term to find your site? And, if they're already searching for
your brand, why would they click on a correction like that?

How about using it to your advantage? You could for instance take out
Adwords on that term (you'll likely get them for less than $0.10/
click) and either just promote your site OR play a word game, eg "I
know you didn't mean 'cleavage' - visit Clio Villiage to find the
Renault for you". That'll work and get people talking about your site
- double bonus.

I did something similar on a local (Switzerland) "Google Bomb" phrase
that was triggering a politician: "Waschlappen" (
http://www.babylon.com/definition/Waschlappen/English ) has two
meanings, the "bad" one triggered the Google Bomb on the politician, I
used the alternate one to promote a local web-supermarket (as an
affiliate). It was fun (lots of clicks and quite profitable) - and
then Google "dropped the bomb", so I moved on. It's all a question of
leveraging the items that are in place. Imagine if Adam had an Adsense
page on Lasik ....

Also, you'll have to work on getting your site mentioned elsewhere now
anyway -- this thread is coming up at #2 at the moment (it'll drop
down over time though). More links from other strong sites are always
good, and they would show up in the results as well.

John
