I have been facing a problem of supplemental results for my site, www.holidayshub.com . I am not able to find out the reason that why my site has so many supplemental results? There are good number of backlinks for this website, but still so many pages are being shown as supplemental results. Any suugestions please. Feedback is greatly appreciated.
for supplimental results : so many causes may be like...
dupplicate meta tags, content less pages, and so many may be , to resolve it you make changes in your pages and then wait for re indexing of your pages.

The basic thing is that a) old pages tend to go supp (especially in blogs) and the way to get them out is to link directly to them.
(by the way, this one is straight from the 'ironic' department, but my guide to supplementals (above) has gone supplemental - sad but true - if anyone that reads it gets anything out of it, I'd really appreciate it if you could help pull it out by linking to it from your site).

Wordpress is dooming you, the categories are so close to the home page they get regularly indexed with the content of the individual post's loosing out.

Yeah - that's a frustrating thing I've been trying to overcome by adding 'related links' at the end of each article - at one stage 100% of my pages where in the main index, which was cool. I then did a bit of playing around with some 'seo plugins' which seemed to bugger it all up..
I've thought about robots.txt'ing the categories out, but given the way googlebot works, I'd suspect that might be a bad move.
I've also tried giving the category pages a lower priority in my sitemap, but alas that doesn't seem to have made much diffference either..
As soon as pages drop off the front page, they seem to be mostly lost to supps unless they have lots of external links..
Maybe we should put our heads together on this one and try and make wordpress better.

JLH - wrt the prob with category pages - I've made a quicky and dirty change to my template to only show the first 50 or so words of each article on the category pages -
just go to your template folder, make a copy of index.php, rename it to category.php and change the line that says something like -

Internal linking from within the body of your posts - i.e. interlinking your pages can help a lot. Good for the user and site traffic if you link to related posts. But the main thing is to do so inline within your post body. You'll get more love that way, and less chance of the links being picked up as boilerplate.
I had a few posts in the supp but one or two added internal links and bob's your uncle - out they popped.
Interesting discussion though, and worthy of consideration when using WP.

Does not work! I have the same problem and as long as categoru pages use the same content as the actual page both pages go supplimentary!
You need to do two different write ups! One short one long!
Doc's fix may work temporary and bring some category pages and actual pages temporary out of SI but they will go right back unless you do origanal for both!!! You may want to disallow the actual pages in robots.txt

and just leaving the links (kind of a mod of JLH's sitemap idea) would be effective?
Ivb - I used to use the 'excerpts' function of wordpress extensively - kind of like an abstract - and you are right, back in those days I had virtually no supps - but then I got lazy :)
