We may have seemed a bit quiet last week, since many of us were away at SES in Chicago. But we're back now and I wanted to introduce Jonathan, the newest member of our team. He'll be reading and posting, so say hi and ask away!

Hi Jonathan! May be you can start by looking at my site.. www.IndiaCurry.com.. 1. Up to Novemebr 22, it had indexed about 980 pages. Now, whenever it crawls, it drops about 50 pages. Today, it shows it has only 61 pages indexed. Whats happening? 2. When I used to do search on "www.indiacurry.com", it used to display over 20,000 results. Now, it has reduced to about 600 also.. Whatever happend since November 22, something is reflecting both in my site:www.indiacurry.com as well as search of "www.indiacurry.com". I also have Google Adsense on every page. The PageImpression paer day statistics has dropped signficantly as well as the ticks. I am assuming, it is because the number of indexed pages has reduced dramatically. There's been a long-standing rumor about titles and meta description tags that are too similar to be a factor in having pages mistaken for duplicate content, even in cases where the on page text is completely unique. In cases where META descriptions are missing, Google also in some cases generates similar/identical description snippets for similar pages to display for a site: search. In these cases, similar description snippets reflect similar on-page content. Finally, often these pages with similar META descriptions are labelled supplemental (but as Adam Lasnik reminds me, correlation != correlation).

Maybe titles are just weighted higher just like they seem to be for normal on-page seo? Perhaps the description tags are treated just like normal content - but as the first part of the content on the page? ;-)
