Subject: External Links
I have several external links on my links page but when I go to the
"link" section in tools it only shows a couple?  These other sites
have linked back to me but I don't understand why they are not showing
up under this section.  Can anyone see why this is happening?  My site
is www.lostinlounge.com.

Thanks

The WMT is often a little slow/out of sync.

You may do better using...
links: www.lostinlounge.com
links: lostinlounge.com
...in the Google search.

Additionally, you could use some online tools for finding links in/out
of your site?
http://webseodesign.com/seo-tool-chest/backlinks.php   (Inbound?)
http://www.seochat.com/seo-tools/site-link-analyzer/   (Outbound?)

Hope that helps.

I'm really sorry, but I'm not quite following the question.
Are you wanting to get Google to lsit your site, or to use the Google
Search on your site?

It may be better to start a new topic all of your own, so that no one
gets confused.

But isn't having external links one way your pages to more ranking
power?  If WMT doesn't show my links how does that not hurt my
ranking?  Thanks for all the input.

Where does it say that Google doesn't know about the links?

Hi Jim--

JLH is correct that the backlinks reports show a sample of your links;
they aren't guaranteed to show 100% of all links that Google knows
about.

However, there may be an issue currently with the report, which we're
looking into. See this thread for details:

Anyone ever notice that they always show your most embarrassing spammy
links in there? I would do away with that entire feature Susan, full
disclosure or nothing, people are no stupid. Webmaster Tools should be
filled with useful features not fake ones made to please the SEO
community!

I didn't say it doesn't know about the links.  If you go into my
website www.lostinlounge.com and click on the links pages, you can see
I have around 8 or so.  When I log into Webmaster Tools and click on
the external links it doesn't show all of the ones I have listed on my
site.  I have created a link exchange with these companies and I can
go into thier site and find my site and click on it and it goes to my
site, so I don't think thier is a break anywhere.  That is why I'm
confused.

Okay, well when they say, "external links" they actually mean links on
other sites pointing to yours, that may be where the confusion lies.
That list is only a sample of the links, and not an exaustive sample,
and some of the links shown may not actually pass any pagerank.  So
while an interesting metric, it doesn't hold much true value.

One word of caution, I'd be careful digging into the "link exchange"
field, what you put on your site may reflect poorly on it, and your
ranking may be reduced because of those actions.
