I have tried everything I know how to do to bring my page up from page 28 to 32. I made this site in yahoo site builder and the inside pages are made with store editor. I believe my keywords are good , but the highest page Ive ever been on is page 16. I am going broke with ppc and could use some help with advertising being on the organic side. Any one with any simple suggestions. Im not a computer wizard. Obviously. Thanks in advance. My site is www.economylotions.com
I would start weeding through your reciprocating links partners... if I am wrong with any of the following please correct me...
You've got approx 1600 links pointed at you... I'll bet the majority of them are reciprocating... I would think that could be a red flag if your backlinks outnumbered your reciprocating... but it's voodoo science...
You've been online since Oct 2004 and you toolbar page rank is 0... Your link scheming is obviously not working... try refining and reducing your stratgey... concentrate on what matters to your website and your customers... in your industry... maybe if you expanded those link partners you have on your site to full page descriptions it would help... perhaps if you chose the key few which you felt mattered to your website and it's reputation and built alot of unique content to promote the other websites it would help... Just browse their website and find the products and or services they offer and promote it...

Please excuse my ignorance. How did you find all these links pointing to me. When I check with webmaster central it shows 12. It sounds like you know exactly what your talking about, so could you point me in the right direction. Thank you.

I would guess those 1600 results are the effect of being caught up in a link farm... even though most of those results are not actually links... they give a good idea about how what kind of automated programs might be working on your behalf...
Maybe you should make sure your not associated with them at all by removing the Tanning link exchanges section from your site all- together... 404 the pages and URL remove them from the webmaster tools...

if you want to see what Google has for you site, go to the google home page, and in the search box, type info:www.economylotions.com no spaces, or anything, anbd you will see an info page. click on the 'links, and it show NO incoming links and over 600 outgoing links
You cannot use this command on Yahoo, it will redirect you to the explorer.

wizard46, I guess the first thing you need to do is let us know exactly what words / phrases you are trying to rank for.
Mandw, the info: operator, like the link: operator and webmaster tools is either so inaccurate or out of date that it borders on useless. For assessing links I almost always recommend yahoo siteexplorer.
I am trying to rank mostle for tanning lotion. I am on page 2 for wholesale tanning lotion, but need to rank for tanning lotion and or tanning lotions,

Setting aside the technical detail for a moment, or opinion on colour scheme/layout, are you making best use of the visitors you do get?
Bear in mind that your objective is not to provide information on tanning lotion but to ensure a credit card is removed from a wallet. You do not sell unique products, so would benefit from promoting your unique selling points. This should be done in a way that lets customers quickly understand what you can do for them, not what you do.
Essentially, when someone arrives on your entry page, you have an average of 12 seconds to ensure their decision is to carry on looking. Do you feel the top half of your entry pages do this?
Ignore the mammoth, brand reliant sites and look at others who are successful. You will see a clear pattern, in terms of design, headlining, benefits, USPs etc.
I know this won't see you rank no1 but can have an indirect ranking effect and will at least offer better reward for the time and money you are putting in.

Page 2 is not too bad for a highly competitive term like that.
Increasingly I'm seeing that the major difference between a page 1 site and a page 2 site for highly competitive niches is a combination of two things:-
* Buzz, or the regularity with which you receive new links - bursty link increases tend to tell the SE that this is a hot page (this doesn't even need to be from rel="followed" links - a good writeup on one of the various authority social networking buzz sites like technorati, digg etc can have the same effect). * In the absence of that, Pagerank - or your steady state incoming links.
It's likely that on page SEO has got you pretty much where you are at, and it's unlikely that you'll get much further for those competitive terms with your linking profile. You need to work on external factors.
I'd also consider targeting more niche terms - what else are people searching for? Is it possible to better target those keywords without detracting from your site?
I also agree with Chibcha - it's important to try harder to convert the traffic you are receiving - even enhancing your click through rate from searches is something you can achieve by making your page titles a bit more compelling.

on most pages there is a link in the top left upper corner to 'google entry' which points to a page such as http://store.economylotions.com/googlee3fcad65d90a2176.html which contains no content for users except some javascript. Sorry if i sound stupid but what is the point of these pages and/or the javascript?
That is most probably the name of the Google verification file. It shoud of course not be linked to from anywhere at all. That file is to remain on the server and not be known by anybody except Google and the webmaster.
That page of course is supposed to be only an empty, blank file, which happens to have that name.
Using any of Yahoo's site builder tools it is apparently not obvious how one can upload an independed page and NOT link it into the site.
Apparently the poster has not discovered the proper control interface that allows independent uploads.
Did I say how stupid Yahoo's stuff is? And this includes the crutches it offers that are supposed to help website owners with building and managing their website..

The script of course is not actually part of the file - it is introduced by the Yahoo server when it serves the page - it's the silly hit tracking tool it has. Make everything totally invalid.
the only way to get rid of those scripts is to turn off traffic stats in the Yahoo control panel. There's nothing lost by doing that and everything to gain in fact.

Actually, it's probably more accurate to do this in a google search box by typing links: www.yoururl.com
You currently have according to my google datacentre 744 incoming links. Not bad at all! I would check the load time of your homepage as it seemed to take an inordinate amount of time to fully load. This can and will affect your seo.
If you fix that and clean up your .html a bit better and get some good meta tags you should be in the game pretty quickly considering the amount of incoming links you have.
With the space its not searching for links but the word "Links:" and the word "www.yoururl.com" and if all of your links have the anchor text "www.yoururlcom" in them for you to find that way, that just may be the reason a site doesn't rank.
As far as metatags, if you are looking to rank in 1996 then that's a great idea, otherwise if you are looking to rank in 2007 I'd spend my energies elsewhere.

If you want to rank well for 'tanning lotion' then bump up your keyword density to around 4% to bring it inline with the top few sites. That's where they are. Be careful to keep your keyword phrases randomly spaced throughout your text and meta tags as well.
Also you have a google PR of 0. In order to rank better in Google you'll need to raise that number to at least a 3 or even 4. Make sure all your inside pages are linking to your homepage using the anchor text tanning lotion. That should raise your PR significantly.
Also, make sure that all of your inside pages are linked from somewhere on your site so that they can be found by the googlbot.

Sure there are more things that can be done, but optimizing meta tags still works. For example: here is the site in question's title tag...
economylotions sells wholesale indoor tanning lotion at discount price
The words 'sells' 'at' and 'price' will not help this site at all as they are not (at least according to wordtracker) relevant in any combination with the other keywords. if they are not relevant then why clutter up the tag?
If you can find an instance where a site ranks well without decent meta tags (title and description) for competitive terms it's probably because they have tons of incoming links and it just doesn't matter.

You're right, anchor text has nothing to do with page rank. I just threw the anchor text thing in there which will help this person with as you say 'page ranking'. Sorry for any confusion.
Titles are not metatags they are part of the page, and the desciption is used for the snippet. True metatags like keywords are only used slightly by yahoo, google ignores them completely. That was my point.
