Subject: Site badges, where's the line?
I'm interested in link-bait tactics involving site badges, do they
have any benefit on search results in today's search or are they now a
frowned upon practice?

HitWise (http://www.hitwise.com) have traditionally used their "Top
10" site badge to link back to their own site, fair enough, but
recently also conceal links to their own international offices, what's
the deal? Scroll over the bottom 10 px's of the badge and you'll see a
link to http://www.hitwise.com.au.

This practice can be seen on http://www.the-raft.com as well as any
inbound link search to their other international office. Is this an
ethical behavior to be expected from one of the leaders in SEO?
