You are correct that the above site is owned by Google but the fact
that there is a redirect is not how you can tell that is the case
(anyone can do that). You need to look up the WHOIS details for the
domain, check what name servers are being used and also check the
WHOIS details for the IP(s) the domain resolves to since Google owns
there own netblocks. If all of those things map to Google then it
probably is owned by Google though it could also depend on who the
registrar is (there are rogue registrars out there which is why
spammers / phishers get away with stuff like fast-flux DNS setups).
The problem looks like Google trying to make USENET postings more
easily accessible but which unfortunately means that any spam that
makes it onto USENET now is running under their domain (arrrgh).
Sorry, I moofed. I jumped to conclusions, that's for sure.
But I have trouble figuring out how one can do any redirection from a
group page, or make folders for that matter.
I have seen no way to add javscript or meta refresh to a page in a
Google group.
On a related note, I just got my first SEO spam today and I feel so
happy. All this talk of other webmasters receiving SEO spam and my
not getting any sort of made be feel left out. :-(
That doesn't mean any of you reading this need to now go out of your
way to make sure I get more though. :-()

Who wants to fill out a spam report on a Google domain? I wonder if
they'll read that one, all of mine go in the circular file, someone
else give it a go.
Thanks for bringing this issue up. I've passed it on to the team. In
general, if the group had normal postings, you could use the "Report
this message" link (under "More Options") to report things like this.
In cases like this where there are no postings to report (but where
the group clearly abuses our terms of service), you can send an email
to abuse @ googlegroups.com providing the information that you have.
I'm very happy for you Craig - you must have been feeling unloved ;-)
Yesterday's batch had one offering 50 inbound links for $50 a week; I
thought I'd follow it up and asked them what would be the PR of the
pages linking to me. They haven't replied yet. Oddly, whenever these
SEO's ask me to put in a link to another site they never mention
money. Strange.

If they knew what they were doing, they'd know that PR cannot be
passed like that anymore or their site will be penalized; websites
they link to risk being penalized too. You didn't honestly think that
prospects actually CLICK on these links (or even see them)??
This PR update is obviously an attempt by Google to impede paid
linking (and the spam that comes along with it).

> I've been getting that by the handful. Almost daily.
If I put up a domain and put a page up on it with a valid email
address to that domain, and then rewrote all incoming mail to
[email address], do you think I could get the email spammers to self-
report?
That would be the day. I've yet to see a spammer with a valid reply-to
email address.
Worse that reply-to may belong to an innocent victim who'll be getting
all manner of bounces and reprimands.
Most spam I get gets tagged as spam so I just delete it when I see it.
I dont; do it automatically because the tagging is often enough
incorrect, too aggressive.
Spam I get to gmail however is usually spot-on identified as spam and
placed in the spam box. Very good filtering there. Still some false
positives happen and few slip by. But once I report them as spam it's
goodbye. Got one from a terribly aggressive spammer calling himself
SEO CEO (hohum). He is no more.
