Subject: site: search doesn't return index page, search for product does - penalty sign?
Hi folks,

Website:www.backlesslingerie.com

I probably 'over optimised' this site towards the end of last year,
and fairly convinced it's been under a penalty since around March.

Recently after changing the content of the site, I issued a
reconsideration request - very detailed.

A couple of weeks later, the site shifted back to where I'd usually
expect to see it.

As of three days ago, traffic has dropped substantially again, and a
site: search shows the index page not in the index at all, whereas a
search for www.backlesslingerie.com returns the index page.

I've heard rumours here that this is indicative of a penalty. Would
love your thoughts

I've seen a dozen or so sites with the home page missing from a site:
search.  I'd love to know other people's opinions.

Perhaps we should collect a list - pick a thread to post all of them
to.

Hello
I agree with Phil ..
I also looked at the site. Very nice..er...er...er.. picture. LOL ..
Your home page
I do not feel it is over optimized.
There is no spam
It is well structured seo wise.
I did find some bad links at
http://www.bad-neighborhood.com/text-link-tool.htm
you migth want to check that out. the site is not that accurate
though.

No, it's not over optimised NOW - I fixed that - but if you check the
wayback machine you'll see I went crazy trying to optimize for the
term Lingerie - check about Jan this year.

Bad neighborhood? Na.. don't think so.. even if bad neighborhoods have
linked to us (we did get a link from a porn site once - man... the
traffic we had for a few days) - but we've never linked back - our
links are earned.

Cheers,

Have you checked up on the "health" of the sites
on your outbound links lately?

Hi dockarl

Do you think it might help if you used a single way of referring to
your Homepage?

You currently have [http://www.backlesslingerie.com/index.html] as
well as [http://www.backlesslingerie.com/].

Completely irrelevant to your actual question, but in the advert at
the bottom right of the Homepage do you mean "More discrete than a
brief" or "More discreet than a brief"?

Maybe it's just the peculiarities of my set up (MS Windows Vista) but
the video would not run under either Firefox 2.0.0.5 or IE 7.

Oh yes... I'm totally aware of the canonicalization issue and need to
fix that.

The discrete... makes my skin crawl.. Canadian graphic designer that
couldn't spell.

Unfortunately fell of the face of the earth - anyone got any idea what
font that is so I can fix it?

Haha...

I just used the 'bad neighbourhood checker' and the links it is
worried about are totally black hat sites like:-

www.vanessafoxnude.com

and

www.bladam.com - the blog belonging to none other than our own Adam
Lasnik

Bladam, of course, was the worst offender, with anchor text like 'Non
Sexual Healin" and "The Sexier Multimedia version"

Yikes!

dockarl

You have got several instances of 301 redirection of internal links
on
http://www.backlesslingerie.com.au/

Do you have the same on http://www.backlesslingerie.com/ ?

Robbo,

The only 301's I have on .au are to correct cnonicalization.

I do have canonicalization redirects on .com as well, for the same
reasons.

re: the video would not run. do you mean you couln't hear audio?

That's deliberate.. I muted it because the model possibly should stick
to modelling rather than public speaking. A rather high timbred voice
- didn't want to scare the living daylights out of people that had
their speakers on.
