Subject: Googlebot seeing a different language
We recently put up a site for a client -- http://vsanswers.com and
when Googlebot indexes the content the results are showing up as
Spanish keywords.  None of the Spanish words appear in the site
anywhere, and it is severely affecting the site's rankings.  Does
anyone know why this is happening?  Help appreciated!

Hi ntara and welcome to the groups!

Looking at some of the pages indexed for your site, it appears that
you have some PDFs in multiple languages:
http://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Avsanswers.com+filetype%3Apdf

I assume that some of the Spanish keywords can be found on pages like
those. In general, PDFs like that can be a bit problematic as it's
nearly impossible to determine the language they're in, which could
result in the document ranking for an interesting mixture of keywords.
If that's ok with you, then you can certainly leave it -- otherwise
you could use your robots.txt file to prevent crawling of these files,
making them drop out of the index over time.

More information on removing content from our index can be found at
http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=35301

Hope it helps!

John

Where are you seeing the "Spanish keywords"?

I can't see any Spanish version of any of your webpages in Google.

The nearest to that is the "bluff Latin" that is sometimes used by web
designers to show how a page layout would look BEFORE they have any
real content.

I also see several PDF documents indexed with Spanish in the snippet
and that is because those PDF documents on your site did contain
Spanish text AND STILL DO.

It seems not unreasonable to display some Spanish in the SERPS for
documents on your site that are in or include Spanish:

Terrific info!  Somehow, we overlooked the PDF content -- thank you
all for your replies and your assistance -- we will try excluding the
PDF's from crawl and also get rid of the bluff Latin...

thanks again
