When redirecting from one URL to a new or preferred URL with the same
content, the recommended method is to use a 301 redirect, which
indicates that the content of the old URL has permanently moved to the
destination URL of the redirection. Googlebot is capable of following
301 redirects, and ranking signals are passed to the new URLs as
appropriate.

You should do undelayed meta refreshs only when you've absolutely no
other option, for example when you rescue traffic and incoming link
love from free hosts or so. Always try the HTTP redirect route first.

If I set up a host with one page that has 301 redirect header,
basically pointing to www. site from no www.site I will keep my
ranking - that is what you saying - Did I understand it correctly?
