For some time I've noticed something strange on signin: as soon as I enter the 1st char of my ID, Firefox helpfully pops up a dialog with my full ID, plus pw asterisked out.  Yet when I click to accept that, only the 1st char of the ID is entered.  So now I enter the 2nd char, the FF dialog pops up again, I click it and this time it's accepted.

So why doesn't it accept it the first time?  And why does it subsequently work fine on the 1st char, if I sign out then later sign in again in the same FF session?

What's going on?  IS SOMETHING PHISHING my ID and pw?

I'm using Firefox 2.0.0.14 on OS X 10.4.11 (on a MacBook).

btw, Google Mail does NOT exhibit this odd behaviour, but I use a different ID there.  Any suggestions?
