Port 8888 is already in use

Hi - I love the idea behind the GWT so I wanted to try it out. I
downloaded the zip file, extracted it, and ran
samples/KitchenSink/KitchenSink-shell.cmd but I get this error message:

"Port 8888 is already in use; you probably still have another session
active"

I have no idea what could be running on port 8888 already - anyone have
any ideas?

Hi !
I had a similar problem when I run the shell I get a "(111) Connection
refused in http://localhost:8888/".
May i have a problem with something in the network ?

Check your task manager and kill any instances of Tomcat that may be
running.

Check if you are running Skype... at least for me it uses unusual ports, like 80... maybe it is listening at 8080 too....

Note that the Yahoo! Music Engine also listens on 80 and 8080. If you
start your server processes prior to starting the Yahoo! Music Engine,
Y!ME will run without locking these ports.

You can change the port, which is specified in the Foo-shell and Foo.launch files. Maybe the Foo-compile too, I forget.

I had the same problem. I messed around a bit finally and ran the
command with the "-port 8889" option and it ran just fine. Pick any
port you please as long as it's not being used or violates the system
limits or reserved ports

Hello there
I had two problems in the network the hostname "localhost" was
redirected to the server of the network instead of my own pc and there
was something listening on port 8888 of my pc so i did this:

C:\gwt-windows-1.0.20\samples\KitchenSink>kitchensink-shell.cmd -port
8889

and then i changed:
http://localhost:8889/com.google.gwt.sample.kitchensink.KitchenSink/KitchenSink.html
by
http://127.0.0.1:8889/com.google.gwt.sample.kitchensink.KitchenSink/KitchenSink.html
