Until Google creates its own website to share components, I created one
so you can see all community contributed components in one place.

http://gwt.components.googlepages.com/

If you have a component you want to share with others, feel free to
contact me at gwt.com...@gmail.com (gwt dot components at gmail dot
com).

Sounds great!

Good idea. But I actually have two corrections to make. My last name
would correctly be spelled "Albers" ;)
Plus the copyright information is misleading. Code which is under
public domain might be distributed without explicit permission. And if
I recall correctly the script.aculo.us component was far from being
public domian, was it?

I'm sorry about misspelling. It is fixed now.

Script.aculo.us is not a part of GWT component, so it is not a problem.

You are welcome to make suggestions for copyright messages. But I want
to avoid 2 things:
1. inclusion of the scripts into future commercial libraries of
components
2. other web sites' use of the source code to increase their traffic.

This is a very good initiative

To avoid inclusion of the components into future commercial libraries,
etc, you need to change from public domain to some license, public
domain means no restrictions at all.

And I think that Simp is talking about this restriction made by the
script.aculo.us gwt component author:

Note: Please do not redistribute or alter the script without my
permissions (You can change only package name). You can contact me
at
alexei dot sokolov at gmail dot com.

By the way, nice initiative :)

Thanks for correcting that. And thanks for your work with the component
library.

Okay, I see. Well, then keep the message as is.

My comment with the scrip.aculo.us was not meant to be about
script.aculo.us itself but about the GWT component.

> Note: Please do not redistribute or alter the script without my

That's far away from being public domain. Actually that's some closed
source licensing.

That's been taken care of.

I have to concur with others in this post. Great initiative, but you
have to change the FAQ around licensing. You can't place the code under
public domain, then claim the code can't be redistributed without
permission. Public domain means it's available to anyone for any use.

I would like to ask people who are not happy with the license to come
up with better terms.
Like I said before, I want to avoid 2 things:

1. inclusion of the scripts into future commercial libraries of
components,

2. other web sites' use of the source code to increase their traffic.

Do not just say "oh... it is crap", be more constructive.

Thank you.

This is interesting. However, I strongly urge you to remove the words
"open source" from the home page. When someone has to get explicit
permission to redistribute code that code is NOT open source.

Ok guys, you won. The license is LGPL 2.1 now.

Would it be possible to provide a .zip or .tar download of all the
files? Viewing the code online is nice but shouldn't there also be a
download link?

The package name should be package com.gwt.components.client.

OK.. I created Effects.java in
..\src\com\gwt\components\client\Effects.java

And, I also included the script includes in the <HEAD> section of the
html file with .js files copied over the specified folder.

<script src="js/prototype.js" type="text/javascript" />
<script src="js/scriptaculous.js" type="text/javascript" />

But, I am getting the following error. I did try with and without the
recommendation made in the home page to create User.gwt.xml in
com.gwt.components package.
It didnt make any difference.

Please advise.

C:\downloads\GWT\gwt-windows-1.0.20\gwt-windows-1.0.20\samples\DynaTable>DynaTab

From the front page:

Tip:

It is easy to use the source code published on this site without changing the package names. Create a new file called User.gwt.xml in com.gwt.components package. Place the following lines in it:

<module>
  <inherits name="com.google.gwt.core.Core"/>
</module>

Then add <inherits name="com.gwt.components.User"/> to your module configuration file.
