It looks like this is very similar to the free open source Ajax
framework at http://www.nextapp.com/platform/echo2/echo/ what I would
like to know is are there any plans to allow people to extend the
google widget library beyond what it currently is.

To me the set of widgets is quite small right now (in comparison to the
likes of echo and others) but are also quote limited if you were to
build a complex screen.

What I have found hardest in doing this stuff is controlling the screen
layout can Google provide a pattern and/or anti-pattern for doing
screen layout with the GWT.
