Read the above link and you'll see the potential harm.

Google needs to seriously consider the implications of this product.

Perhaps what is needed is something like their "rel=nofollow" except it
would be "rel=noprefetch" so that those links won't be prefetched. It
would be nice also if you can add it to the header of the page, in a
meta tag.

This is a good idea, but there are countless web apps that are already
out in production that will have to be changed.  I don't think a new
product such as this one should force current web apps to change.

I wonder if anyone has thought of the irony in the product.

The documentation says that it is most beneficial for cabel and dsl
users.
http://webaccelerator.google.com/support.html#basics3
Isn't it the dial-up that might need a little "acceleration"?  Its just
impatience if cable and dsl users need their web experience
accelerated.

I'm personally a big fan of google products and services.  I have gmail
and really enjoy using it.  But this project annoys me at least.  It
doesn't seem like it was well thought out (the target market is off for
starters, cable and dsl?).  Was this someone's overzealous 20% project?

Chris

Uh. Google Web Accelerator is designed to remove the bottleneck at the
web server end. You can't really accelerate dialup users' connections.

Agreed. I thought Google's mantra was "Do no evil."  Forcing app
developers world wide to immedietly drop what their doing and recode
just to block this dectructive app is at best being a very rude
netizen.  Bad Google! No cookies for you!

Mozilla does prefetching too, so it wouldn't be just for this program.
