Hi there,

I have KML files (used by Google Earth Enterprise) and want to index
those files,

Does GSA index KML files? How does it treat the XML tags? How to
locate the search result?

My objective is to add search box (comes from my GSA) into the GEE.

Thanks,
Ahmed

Hi Ahmed,

You can use a Google Search Appliance or Mini to index KML data. You
just need to get it to understand it. For example, creating a feed,
where you extract the data out of the KML and load it into the feeder
is one way, of course there are many!

Look at the various types of data that the GSA accepts, here (http://
code.google.com/apis/searchappliance/documentation/60/admin_crawl/
Introduction.html#what2hd ) and see if you can somehow get your KML to
work with the GSA.

I'd love to see some more implementations of GSA in GEE, it's such a
natural fit. Perhaps even have a chat to your reseller/partner to see
if they can help you out.

Good luck.

Regards,
Steve.

Hi Ahmed,

KML is basically XML, so as long as XML is not supported in the
appliance I wouldn't expect it to be indexable:

Indexable File Formats
http://code.google.com/apis/searchappliance/documentation/52/reference/formats.html

Out of curiosity, I just crawled the KML from a random Flickr user and
was able to search for text in it, so if that is all you need then (at
least on 6.0) it seems to work, but it may well depend on the KML
structure. Try this URL to get a feeling:

Hi Ahmed,

Check out the Google Feeds structure:
http://code.google.com/apis/searchappliance/documentation/60/feedsguide.html

This will show you how to do feeds. You can then use the KML as
content, with all the fields in the KML being meta data.

I'd suggest to look into this rather carefully, if will require a bit
of dev in order to get operational.

As Miguel said, KML would not be supported by either device. The
question is what do you want indexed?

The solution would be to develop an XLS transformation on the KML to
develop a Google XML Data Feed. You can can submit this to the GSA
for indexing.

Thanks Steve and Michael for your participation. I will go ahead and
read more about Feed API to build the feed for KML.
