These are simple trail map files created with Google Earth. The ones
named 'tester" are new but the rest were working fine before, and are
still accessible through Google Earth. I suddenly find that I can't
get ANY .kmz or .kml file to display on Google Maps. Many thanks for
any help you can give me.
Unfortunately the 'file not found error' on google maps is a
misleading error.
The reason why google maps cannot display your files is most likely
that none of them is valid kml or kmz.
I'm a Google employee that typically posts in the Google Maps API
group. Just wanted to let you know that this error may also be caused
by recent problems with our KML fetching servers, particularly if it's
a file that worked before. A temporary workaround is to try moving the
KML to a new location. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thanks! I'll work with the validator. The files used to work. Maybe
Google Maps suddenly got pickier about errors (there have always been
errors in these .kmz's from Google Earth). More later...

Yeah. My files had not changed and they no longer load. I even moved
one of them to another site and I still get the error message about
file not found. :-(
I hope this gets fixed soon. I put together a map of Java User Groups
around the world and was helping the Java Champions Program
Coordinator at Sun, Aaron Houston, do something similar for Java
Champions worldwide. I was going to do a mashup this weekend that
would interactively overlay the two, but, that is obviously not
happening until this is resolved. Moving the files to a different site
did not help. Sigh!
I hope someone from Google will respond back here when the problem is
believed to be resolved. I'll be monitoring for that message and will
gladly verify whether the problem has truly been resolved at that
point. :-)

Saturday afternoon I uploaded my kmz files for California winery
locations from GEarth to GMaps and each wine region's placemarks
worked very well. This morning, Sunday, nothing worked and I spent
almost all day struggling to figure out what I did wrong. Nice to
find this thread now. I assume that when the Google Plex up the
highway fills tomorrow morning that this problem will get worked out.
Maybe Pamela will blog us about the problem and reliability
improvements. I've worked through the Thanksgiving holiday to get my
project online so this is a bit frustrating.

Not sure if this is the same problem as I am an old hand with Google
Earth Pro, but have never tried to import a kmz file into My Maps. I
chose the upload option, not the URL one, and every time I get this
error:
We could not finish uploading your file.
No changes have been made to the map.
Is there a workaround: I have tried it both with current Firefox and
Safari browsers. Going to try to upload the file and use the URL
option now, as a test.

Workaround of uploading file to web, then using the URL option worked,
though this is an inconvenience and would like to know if I have a
setting that could be changed to use the upload option. I am not
behind any firewall, other than the one that comes with OSX, and I
upload and download files, streams, patches, etc. regularly.

I definitely confer concur. There definitely is a problem with this
function. And for those who are familiar with me, I RARELY agree that
a problem exists with Google Maps! ;-)
I have been a member of this Group for a LONG time. I have seen many
things. On that note, I'm also aware that Google rarely admits in
this Group that a problem exists. It's even rarer that Google will
announce when the problem was fixed.
So, don't hold your breath for a fix or announcement. Just keep
trying the function, and if it doesn't work, keep reporting it here.

you dont appear to have vaid KML. GE, might be smart enough to figure it out (or at least make a valid attempt), but other XML parsers are less likly to be so forgiving.

I was having similar problems with 'File not found' errors when I was
trying to load a KML file. The solution that I found may be helpful so
thought I'd post it here.
Basically, using either the form on the Google Maps homepage OR the
map API I found that the KML file needed to be hosted on a public
webserver. I was doing a test with a local file and it wasn't loading
using the GGeoXML object as I'd expected it to:
http://code.google.com/apis/maps/documentation/reference.html#GGeoXml
Secondly, check to see if your webserver is set up to serve KML files,
I added the KML/KMZ mimetype and that seemed to work - no more 'file
not found'!
It might not work for everyone but thought I'd post this anyway just
in case.
Cheers

not working for me. it seems incomprehensible that a file created by
google maps would not be valid or "readable" when attempting to import
into google maps. shouldn't the two "talk" to one another more
fluently than this? such a promising feature if they could only get it
to work.
grrrr!
