I'm afraid it's not broken - this feature was a long-running experiment, and in the end it was decided to discontinue it.
There are however lots of other features we're adding to maps in the hope of making it even more useful. And if you are in the United States and liked click-to-call, check out a different experiment we're doing:

I should also say... Google 411 doesn't seem like a good replacement, either. I've used it before, the voice recognition is not great, and I usually am able to find things more quickly by text messaging Google.
Sad. Maybe some enterprising third party will add the click to call businesses functionality through a plug in or extension. One can only hope.

Oh man! I loved that feature. It was one of those features that made me go to Google Maps to look something up, rather than going to another service. Too bad.

This is terrible news! For me that was the one killer feature which brought me to Google Maps again and again. I pretty much gave up dialing the phone for businesses. This really stinks.
This is a huge error on Google's part. I've introduced this to at least a dozen people and it was probably the best feature on Google Maps. But it is a good thing that Windows Live still does it - I've been using their mapping feature more now as a result.

Do you remember when Ebay started? Wouldn't it have been great to have been in on the ground floor? I have great news A close friend of mine, whom I have known for over 7 years, has turned me on to a great opportunity. There is a company based in Australia that has launched a company that I believe will be greater than Ebay and we have a chance to be part of its beginning.
The good news is that when we initially join as a diamond member, our outlay each month is only $10 Australian, currently about $8.43 US. There is even a 60 day money back guarantee so we can't lose. AND, when you JOIN NOW FOR FREE, you receive $25 Global Money to use in the BBS Auctions like cash and with participating BBS Merchants when you shop! Plus when you upgrade to diamond within 30 days, you will get $15 more Global Money each month for the next 12 months, or $180!
But the reason I am excited is that my friend has realized such rapid growth in his first month alone. He was in a profit situation where he would make more than his monthly outlay before his first month ended. The help came from the people above him in this company. Yes, he contacted some people he knew, but he also received a good deal of members from the people above him. And, he has promised to do the same for me and my friends. And the personal online training and coaching he received was ENORMOUS! **
So I want you to take a look at this opportunity. Let's look at the boring case of what might happen… The first month it costs you $10.00 australia and the second month it costs you $4.40 australia and after one year, you are making ONLY $300 or $400 profit (or even $100). This still sounds pretty good to me. Where else can you be in business for such a small amount. We waste more than $20 many days of the month! That is why I would like you to take a look at BBS Global. It's a no-brainer, you get paid to shop and to find other people who like to shop or sell their merchandise online. Their auction site opens VERY SOON and things will really explode, so now is a great time to get involved. Get back to me. Let me know. Talk to you soon…

I work for a company that is providing Click to Call functionality for a lot of (yellow pages) directory businesses globally and we are seeing a massive uptick in demand for this service, especially of late. Is there a particular reason Google removed Click to Call?
Thanks

Ive been freaking out about this myself... I guess we'll have to wait and see. Currently Microsoft provides this service via live, but I HATE using microsoft stuff so Im hoping google revives it !
PS This is strange because google still has the instructions for it online... maybe they are planning on reviving it but one of the maps moderators said they removed it for good. http://www.google.com/help/faq_clicktocall.html
I am with the rest of the group. I have really missed the call feature and I am glad that I know about Windows Live. I will be using it now, although I liked the google version better (probably because I was so use to it). Please bring it back...

So Google ~ so we all understand that click to call was an experiment. but how could anyone decide to discontinue it. I thought for sure you would have made it permanent. There's a lot of people that used that gaget, and i'm disappointed that its gone. goog411 is great as well, I've been using that for a while. but it doesn't compare to click to call. we need that one back!! if we had to chose I would rather have click to call over goog411. Please put back click to call on the Map, literally. Thanks

I use Goog411 a lot on my cell phone and it has saved me a ton in Directory Assist charges, but when I am at home I absolutely love the click-to-call feature its a definite time saver and needs to be brought back, or have Google Maps incorporated with Grand Central so that we could use click2call.
