Subject: MAJOR problems with Washington DC as of late
Sometime in the past few weeks, Google Maps has become essentially
useless in Washington DC, completely losing its ability to understand
addresses here.  This appears to have something to do with the way
that DC's addresses include the quadrant of the city the address is
located in.  An example:

914 C St SE, Washington DC

currently shows the following map:

http://url.queso.org/177 (URL shortened for clickability)

whereas the true location is here:

http://url.queso.org/176

That's over four miles away, and two quadrants of the city away.  This
isn't an isolated case -- most addresses in DC now come up in the
wrong place, frequently a few miles away and sometimes on streets that
aren't even CLOSE to the requested address.  The only workaround I've
found is to spell out the quadrant in the address (e.g., "914 C St
Southeast") -- but you'll note that while Google puts the map in the
right place, it also rewrites the address to abbreviate the quadrant,
so using the "To here" or "From here" directions links then produces
maps that end at or start from the wrong address.  It's completely
painful.

The bigger problem is that any bookmarks that include these DC
addresses are now wrong -- so bookmarks that I've sent people over the
years that worked then now don't work at all.
