i was adding kmz files to a google map each day for over a month
without a hitch. a few days ago, i started getting errors: "We could
not
finish uploading yourfile. No changes have been made to the map" or
similar.
per forum advice, i've cleared caches, tried on 3 different computers,
changed to different users, started new maps, tried to upload
previously successfully uploaded files, tried to upload from URL
instead of local file--all to no avail. since mid-july, i haven't been
able to upload a single file.
i'm on mac 10.5.4 safari, also tried firefox (tried also PC windows 2K-
firefox & ie). making kmz files with google earth 4.3.7284.3916 (beta)
on my macbook pro.
Are you certain the file is valid? Its possible it got currupted at some point. feedvalidator.org is useful (it doesnt say so but it can understand kmz - if the proper mime type is returned by your hosting)

thanks for the feedvalidator suggestion--it's telling me it's not a
feed. i'll try posting at a different site.
as far as corruption, not only are my old files that were previously
successful and the new tracks i've been saving not importing, i've
even tried making a brand new kmz on google earth with just one
placemark and still no success.
i did recently update both google earth and my mac os. can't remember
for sure whether the failure occurred at the same time.
other suggestions?

any suggestions for where to upload a kmz file in order to be able to
upload via URL? i've tried idisk and filefactory, with files marked
public, but feedvalidator gives a "file not found." those site URLs
bring me to a page to click a download button to actually retrieve the
file. is there a trick i need to be aware of? (image URLs just open
the image in the browser--not sure if file URLs are different)
i'd like to have someone else try a small kmz of mine or maybe get the
URL of someone's kmz that they know works to help troubleshoot this.
anybody willing?
thanks for the help?

EXCELLENT!! starting a google page and uploading the files worked!!
it's an extra step that i didn't have to take for 6 weeks, and not
sure why i needed to start it all of a sudden, but i'm tickled pink
that i've got it working again. i guess i'll periodically try
uploading files directly from my hard drive in case something gets
fixed--curious.

I am getting the same errors, and I have tried uploading through URL,
which also doesn't work. The strange thing is that I managed to
upload a KML file maybe 3 days ago after much trying and now no files
will upload, including the file I already uploaded. I am using Excel
and www.batchgeocode.com to create my KML files. I can find mention
of this error going back over a year, you'd think Google would have
fixed it by now.

Thanks for the problem report. Unfortunately this feature was not
being automatically tested and so we didn't notice straight away when
it broke.
We've located the source of the bug and are discussing solutions. It
may be a few days until this is resolved: your patience is
appreciated. For now unzipping the file before upload is the
recommended workaround.
I've only tried KML files, so my problem isn't unzipping.
When I try to upload the file, created in Google Earth, and containing
no special tags beyond the Description, it appears to be processing
the file, but nothing ever appears on the map. It generates no
errors. I tried both the file upload and URL methods, several times
over the last few weeks, to no avail.
Does anybody have a simple, bare template file for KML I can compare
to? I checked the on-line docs, and it doesn't provide much
information on which tags are supported for import.
Thanks,
-Rick
