Why aren't highway exits labeled on google maps? I tried to introduce a
couple people to google maps but they quickly pointed out that yahoo
shows highway exits while google maps does not.
I see another post making this request -
and another that says most people don't use exit numbers -
But whether exit numbers are used or names, knowing where the exits are
along a highway is key in some situations. I had trouble a couple weeks
ago when I had to plot out a truck route by hand, because the truck
wasn't allowed on roads that the google directions were recommending,
and had to switch to yahoo because it was impossible to tell where the
closest highway exit to a particular road was. I got tired of typing in
streets further and further down the stretch of highway till google
maps spat out the next exit # and name for me.
Google maps is generally the easiest to read and has the best interface
for browsing, but it's utility in browse and hand plot situations is
limited by the lack of exit labeling. It tends to not be much of a
problem when hand plotting routes to and from rural/suburban areas,
where the exits are spread out, but for dense city areas like Queens,
NY it becomes a real limitation.
Please put at least the exit numbers on the map, and the names too if
they don't clutter the map too much.
