First off, I apologize for not letting everyone know about this
sooner. The good news is that your saved locations haven't
"disappeared." There's just a new way of getting to them.
Directly to the right of the Search box you'll notice an arrow
pointing downwward. If you click on this you'll see a short list of
some of your saved locations. Clicking on "Edit saved locations" will
bring you to a familiar page, which lists all of your saved locations.
I understand that it's a bit inconvenient for those of you loyal
"Saved Locations" users, but assuming the drop-down arrow remains, any
suggestions on how we can improve this feature? I'd love to hear
everyone's feedback!

Brian,
Thank you for making the "saved locations" explanation a sticky!
I really like the saved locations feature. It's incredibly convenient
and useful for my personal and business travel, and it's why I use
came to use google maps as opposed to other similar services. Now that
I know how to access my saved locations, I'm happy, but I wouldn't
have learned about the feature initially if that had been the original
display. It needs some sort of text identifyer.
Thank you. I hope there are no plans to do away with saved locations
all together!
This is a great change but I have to say that some kind of indicator
on the page would be nice.
I am a loyal saved locations user so I hope this is not a way to phase
it out. I would also love if there were a way to exceed 100 saved
locations. I print repeat maps constantly and have to map routes
between locations all of the time. I hope this feature lives on.

This is a great feature. However you don't want to hear all the nasty
words I yelled while finally finding this post after two weeks to
figure out where it all went. No warning, just figure it out yourself?
Typical geek instructions.

Also that method no longer works if the directions, contain multiple destination. Can use http://www.nearby.org.uk/multi-to-kml.php to create a KML that includes teh whole route, that can then be reimported.
From a post I made earlier, before I saw this one --
It would be a huge leap forward if the Saved Locations feature had the
ability to "lock" certain saved locations so that if I, as I routinely
do, "purge" my saved locations, except for a couple I want to hang on
to a bit longer, I wouldn't have to go through and uncheck all of the
ones I don't want to delete. Does this make sense? Typically the ones
I want to delete, since GMaps auto-saves EVERYTHING, outnumber the
ones I want to save, which are interspersed throughout.
Barring that, it would probably be even more useful to save locations
on a case-by-case basis - perhaps having a link inside the map bubble
to "save to My Locations" or something like that.

Hi, I am new to all this with Google, but I have used maps in the past
and have three maps saved from older searches. Today I cannot seem to
get a new search/map saved. There seems to be no way to tell the
program to save. The automatic save boxes ARE checked, however.
Further, as to your Search box drop-down arrow, when I click on that,
the existing saved locations do show up (including the one I'm having
trouble saving so that it shows up in my left column list). However,
when I click on any one location in your drop-down arrow list, I get a
message asking if I want to go search the internet for what kind of
file this is and to find a program to open it. What good is that? I'm
baffled and would really like to use this feature of Google, but I've
spent a long time on it today without any joy and am apt to abandon it
and revert to other map programs I've used. Any guidance is
appreciated. --Holly

OK, well now I went out and updated my profile, then came back and
voila! My new location appears! I don't know how it all works, but
I'll keep trying to muddle through. Thanks. --Holly

What are you saving, exactly? What do you mean by "automatic save boxes" that are checked?
Your problem with the dropdown arrow sounds like your computer has a problem with file associations. More detail on your operating system type & name, as well as the file extention that it is attempting to open are needed.

I'm a bit late to this discussion, but I just LOVE this new feature!
It always took me heaps of clicks to get to 'my saved locations', and
this feature is SO much faster. Many thanks!
I'm hoping there's a way to get more than the current 5 rows in the
drop down menu, I guess I need to play with it more :)
Thanks, Brian & the gang, it's a HUGE improvement!

A limit must be set somewhere. In any case, click the link to see the entire list.
Brian is there a way to sort the saved locations alphabetically-I do
my wifi site surveys via Google for my company and I have over 200
saved maps currently, soon to grow to over 1,000, so sorting will be a
requirement -like yesterday. It really helps me to find the map I
need since I save them all by customer name and then location. Just
so you know I did a comparision of flying to locations vs. Google
mapping and I saved over $72k in the last year in airline tickets!

Thank you so much for this information as I was going crazy looking
for my saved locations. I most definitely would like this feature
back the way it was. There is this whole big tab that reads "MY
Maps", so it looks like the google people want to get people away from
"saved locations" to this other feature which seems to be based on
selling adds and finding business. I have no desire to use this
feature. Thankyou google for hiding this feature and adding
complication to what used to be simple and intuitive product.
I also would like to know how to to sort the saved locations
alphabetically (A previously asked question)
I can never get the map to work the way I think it is supposed to
work. I have a mac. I have various issus and I often think it might
be my browser. Is there a browser that you think works best with
google products??
Thank you, Ladyretz

I would suggest there be an update in the Google maps "help" library
regarding the Saved Locations. I got very frustrated when the help
library was directing me to the old location of Saved Locations. It
may also be helpful to include the link--perhaps temporarily --to edit
Saved Locations when one clicks on "My Maps" since this is probably
where people look first.
Thanks!

Can you give us the drop down box with the Saved Locations in the
Directions module in the Start Address and End Address boxes? And I
second (third?) the suggestion/request that you update your help page
re: Saved Searches -wouldda saved lots of time and hair-pulling trying
to find out why the saved locations weren't in the pane on the left
side of the map!

Hi Brian,
I have tried every arrow to the right of the search box in the google
tool bar and I cannot find the "Saved Location" partial or not. I wish
you can put it back where it was and easy to find however I know that
will not happen. Maybe using pictures will help and updating the user
guide instructions.
Thanks'

I think they made the change to avoid having too much clutter on Google Maps' homepage.
Click on each attachment individually. The first highlights the arrow, while the second highlights the link that opens the Saved Locations list. Each file is named accordingly.
Once there, you will find that the look of the Saved Locations list itself is unchanged.

I read the instructions and was amazed how easy it was wance I found
it, BUT! It would have been nice that after sooooo many replies/
complaints that a link in the oh IDK [My maps] area(thinking user
