First off, thank you for your feedback whenever I make these sort of
anouncements. It's essential and much appreciated.
I wanted to tell everyone that there have been some recent
improvements made to Google Maps - some of which have been feature
request for a very long time!
1. You can now print Street View imagery!
We got a lot of feedback that users wanted a way to take Street
View images on the road. Now you can. When you're viewing a Street
View image, just click on the "Print" icon.
2. You can now avoid toll roads when getting driving directions!
When you generate directions, click on the "Show options" link in
the left panel in the box where you entered your destinations. Select
"Avoid tolls," "Avoid highways," or both and click on "Get Directions"
to reset your route.
As mentioned earlier, your feedback would be much appreciated. Give it
a shot and let me know what you think.
I like the avoid toll road option. An enhancement I would like to see
is the actual (or close estimation) of the cost of the tolls as well.
Since some tolls are cheap and others not so much, it would be nice to
know how much you might be saving in tolls by avoiding them (which
could be more costly in gas).

I feel the maps have gone a degrade instead of an upgrade. It used to
be that I could easily search for businesses, tourist locations etc
around a location and now the format has actually become harder. They
should be some option to switch to the earlier interface.

nice & new information Brian.
But dont you think such information shouldn't only given here at the
help group instead to update the appropriate help-page for maps-
printing matter?

Unfortunately, with the new format I'll no longer be able to use
google maps. I need to be able to map out transport routes, including
individual times and distances, and that feature is gone. So is the
feature where the directions can be expanded or collapsed.
I'd also like to be able to find a business and then show everything
nearby, not restrict it to type of business. Granted, it's not for
city searches, but is very usefull in less populated areas.

There is one feature that I can't seem to find anymore. I was always
able to enter many addresses, and once google showed me on a map their
locations, I would be able to rearrange the order.
Any idea how to do it now?

missing features:
-results no longer show the time and distance for each leg
-cannot rearrange destinations
-cannot collapse/hide steps for individual destinations
GOOGLE, PLEASE RESTORE THESE MAP FEATURES!!
I USE THEM FREQUENTLY
what's the point of that little box on top, now?
it only increases complexity and redundancy.
now i'm seeing each destination listed twice, up on top, and down
below.
that is CONFUSING. it's not the google way.
the google way is to let me edit the destinations in ONE PLACE-- IN
THE DIRECTIONS.
having to look in two different places and try to make sense of it all
is not the google way.
it's just confusing!
I appreciate all the feedback. Quick reminder that the team is working
on restoring the ability to rearrange the order of destinations in the
left panel and to display distances between segments of a multi-city
trip.
Please stay tuned!
ehg - Thanks for pointing that out. We're working on it.
Cheers,
Maps Guide Brian

Maybe you should make an automatic alert message about this, or something. This group is absolutely FLOODED with comlaints about this issue by people who do not search first, making it all but impossible to find useful threads. This repetitiveness is absolutely ruining this group.

I would like to see the "avoid tolls" option available in a better UI
place where more people could get to it easily. Maybe just stick it in
as an option right in with the directions when a toll road is
suggested as a route : ) Just a though. Thanks. I can never seem to
get an "avoid tolls" option and it suggest a toll road for every route
that I take, its very frustrating. Every time it gives me the option
to "avoid highways" but never "avoid tolls" even though a toll is used
as a suggested route.

The maps are not as user friendly as previously. You used to be able
to resort the destinations, now you can't. The only option available
is to cut and paste it into the different destination spot, either A,
B, C etc.
Also before if you tweeked your map any, it reloaded with only the
tweeked changes appearing. Now it takes away any and all saved
changes and reverts back to your initial map.
Sometimes, I firmly believe, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it..."

I guess you somehow missed the numerous threads and answers about this. Google has said that the ability mistakenly disappeared when they changed the GUI of Google Maps, and that they are working on bringing it back.
Don't forget, it is always important to read through archived messages to learn what is going on with Google Maps.

I'm not sure what you mean by that.

You see, Google was receiving countless requests for certain features. The interface had to change in order to include those features.
Google is constantly striving to improve Google Maps, and I'm sure you will agree that a good thing.
